Which Laptop

Hi All

My good lady wife has given the go ahead to get a new laptop

So which do you all recommend?

Should I get an Apple? (means all new software?)

What is the minimum spec i need to go photo processing? I currently have Elements 7 in Windows, and it can get a little slow.

i think youll struggle to find an apple new for that, you may find one 2nd hand?

normally id recommend a dell lattitude but thats slightly over budget by the time you slap 4GB in it.. otherwise:

What software would you have to re buy? Most stuff you can get the license transferred.

You will be struggling to get a new Apple on that budget, unless you would look into the 2nd hand market?

£700 should get you a Sony Vaio, the CW series is pretty nice, we just got one for my sister. Nicely built, fast enough for general photo work and comes in a range of colours (my sister got pink!). They also have the NW series in the £700 range as well, not sure personally what they are like but they looked quite nice in the shop.

Other than that maybe the Dell Studio 13/15 seem to be pretty good.

alienware = dell. which isnt a bad thing but theyre way overpriced and overrated.

Dell are pretty good, but as usual you get what you pay for, a £500 Dell isn't going to be of the same build quality of a £800-900 Apple, or indeed an £800-900 Dell.

lattitude is a mag chassis, ive had an E6500 for a good few months and it is superbly built

now a base MBP with higher ed discount is circa £780, think i would prefer spending £180 more and trial the MBP. MBP seems to keep its value too, if one didn't get on with it just sell it etc.

Ok I guess, spec isn't brilliant and I assume they are built to a price but they are cheap...

(No idea what Samsung computers are like tbh).

They definately won't be up there build quality wise with a Sony or Apple that's for certain.
