Which Lens

Hi,

I brought the 70-200 lens and the 2 x extender.

But im now thinking i should have brought the 100-400.

Want the lens for Dog and Agility shows plus wildlife.

What would you all suggest is best.

I use my 70 -200 for agility most of the time. I found the 100-400 far too limiting.

Which 70 -200 have you got? Mines the f/2.8 mark II and is almost as good as the 100-400 with the 2x converter.

I went 100-400 as I found it a nicer combination on a crop camera for wildlife...

The F4 will typically only give you manual focus with a 2x converter.

You can use a 1.4 converter to get a constant F5.6 with an effective focal length of 98-280 ok if outside in good light....

I found the 2.8 with 2 x converter to be very heavy and unbalanced (front heavy) and hence went 100-400.

If you need a low light / high shutter speed, the F2.8 is fantastic, if the focal length works....

I went with the 100-400 for wildlife and airplanes. I find the push / pull zoom very easy to handle where others have found it a problem. It works very well with AI Servo focussing as well. Certainly wouldn't swap it for a 70-200 2.8 with a 2x on it though.

Whereabouts in Kent are you? If you can get over to Hastings one weekend you're welcome to give my f/2.8 a go and see if it suits what you want. The 100-400 was great for wildlife but the zoom range didn't suit agility.
