Yes
With Christmas fast approaching I would like to ask FC for a macro
lens for my D60, what lens would you advise me to ask for:D

I have a nikkon18-55 and nikon 55-200 currently

It all depends on what you are aiming to shoot?

If you're looking to shoot flowers and things like that (subject doesn't run off) then 50mm / 60mm macros are great. If for bugs etc. then you'll be looking at 90mm upwards.

Whichever macro, they're all pretty sharp and give good results.

If you can get an AI'ed 55mm f3.5 Micro-Nikkor-P auto you will find it is fantastic, giving 50% of actual size on your sensor, and being as sharp as a samurai sword.

But Santa never hands out secondhand goods :)

Oh, and it is strictly manual focus, of course... but it's still a hell of a lens.

How much are you looking to spend? My better half just got her self a Nikkor 105mm F2.8 AF-S VR. The VR really does make it easy to use. Its also got a focus limiter so you can use it as a fast normal lens. Great bit of kit if you can afford it.

To have the lens auto focus on the D60, you need Nikon AF-S, Sigma HSM or other lenses with the AF motor built into the lens BUT, AF isn't really necessary (or desirable) for Macro so the "usual suspects" are still in the frame, namely the 105mm f/2.8 Macro from Sigma and the 90mm f/2.8 Macro from Tamron. If FC is a bit more flush, he might be looking at the 105mm f/2.8G AF-S VR IF ED Micro Nikkor which will give you AF, Vibration Reduction and Macro capability. For a bit less, there's also a Nikkor 60mm f/2.8G AF-s, again, keeping AF but this time, no VR.

I use the tamron 90mm with the D60 and I love it. Not sure about the others though.

 checked out the price of the 105mm f/2.8G AF-S VR IF ED Micro Nikkor, around the £550 mark not sure FC can stretch to that, any ideas what these
would sell for s/h I'd be happy to pretend its new:D

The new currys at Lakeside in Essex had them for £483 so both my mates bought one.

Thanks for that, I'm in Billericay so not so far away is
curry's in the retail park on the outskirts or in Lakeside
itself

Checked with Currys lakeside today your mates must have cleared them
out ....No stock:(
