I don't doubt that this has been asked before, but please humour me because I am quite new here. Much as I love the Forum, my wife takes a dim view of me sitting on the toilet with the Laptop, so for light entertainment whilst sitting on the loo, which photographic magazines are your favourites?

outdoor photographer is usually an ok read... what type of photography do you do? i usualy read national geographic :p but then i love my nature stuff :D

I like Digital Camera Magazine, Photography Monthly and Practical Photography.

Those are the camera mags I've bought most often, but I've bought all of them at one point or another.

Best to have a browse in a shop and see what catches eye. Over a year they all cover pretty much the same stuff.

I subscribe to Digital Camera and Digital SLR User (which is good as it means I get a new mag every two weeks).

I also often buy Photography Monthly and Outdoor Photography depending on the content.

There aren't any bad mags these days, and most will cover the same stuff as others, just not at the same time. I'd buy a few and see which you prefer before subscribing.

There are some good deals to be made with subscriptions around this time of year too.

Have fun :)

I tend to buy whichever magazine features stuff that I want to read / try.

Being an outdoor kind of guy (into what I photograph rather than the photography) - today I bought the Christmas edition of 'Outdoor Photography' - partly because it was all about winter shooting and partly because I'd not seen it before. Not read it yet though.

What I would say is the 'Canon' one (can't recall the name) is really basic and although I'm not a 'pro' I know everything it tends to cover.

I will pick at random, used to subscribe to Practical Photography, but found after 2 years they are simply repeating themselves...

I still subscribe to EOS magazine for Canon (its quarterly) and buy the odd one here and there now. Figure £5 saved each month is £5 towards a filter, lens or anything....

Oops meant to add, alternatively browse your local charity shops and pick up a book on photography, loads of info, still relevant most of it and could be just £1 or so....

AP, Practical Photography and Photography Monthly. WDC and others if there's something in it of interest to me.

All. Many thanks for the comments. It looks like I will have to go and spend an hour in WHS and read a few before buying one or two. Unfortunately, I am a real sucker for buying gimmicky stuff and things way beyond my needs (and means), so it may be best to read the mags in the shop and then leave them there;)

have been given a back copy of digital camera and will soon be subscribing to it, very impressed with it, excellent read very imformative

I've never understood why some people have to read when sitting on the loo. If you have time to read on the loo then maybe the only periodical you need is Roughage News.

What do you mean, you've never understood why some people have to read on the loo. What other purpose does a loo have other than being a place to sit and read?:(

I get Digital photo and amature photographer:thumbs:

I like Digital Photo since it seems to strike a nice balance between beginners stuff and more complex techniques. All photo magazines spend too much time instructing you on how to use computer software and not enough time on how to use cameras, however.

AP, WDC occasionally and Digital Photographer. I like the tips in DP, especially for a numpty like me, every little helps!:D
