Looking at the 400mm 5.6 or the 300mm f4.

Want to use this with a 1.4 canon tx aswell.

What will i lose using the tc on there 2 lens on my canon 7d......????
 
AFAIK the 7D will only AF to f/5.6 so you will lose AF if you put a 1.4 TC on the 400 f/5.6. You'll retain it with the 300 f/4 though.
 
Both Lenses you mention are very very good however my preference is for the 400mm its just such a great Lens to use with lightning fast autofocus and tack sharp
the 400mm is obviously F5.6 opposed to the 300mm's F4 which really makes neither of them Low Light Lenses

so keep that in mind I took my 300mm F4 lens to a night match under spotlights and was sorely dissapointed with the results thinking high ISO would save me (it didn't)

the 300mm F2.8 is obviously a better Lens than both but the price reflects that
a good 2nd hand F2.8 Lens would always get the vote over the other two in question here
I actually own both and I much prefer the 400mm for daytime shooting I have a 1 series camera which allows autofocus with converters, but needs a nice day to get an effective shutter speed using converters

Jes, now im just completly confused. So the 300mm will af all the way back to f4 with the tx but the 400 wont af at 5.6 is that correct? The 2.8 is a little out. Of bidge and am only prepared to purchase a new one as then i no the history of the lens an theres no horrible suprises popping up anywhere :-)
 
I used to have the canon 300mm f4 L IS and it was tack sharp and very fast af, ill find a pic for you to see....
