Summer is a challenging season for landscape photographers. In order to be on location in time for this morning shot, I need to wake up in the wee hours to travel and hike for my chosen spot just to catch the first light of the day.

Nice shot better viewed on Flickr I think, certainly captivates first light nicely from a well known spot.
Only question why the Grad? Could the 810 not handle that DR?

I'm a fan of the mood and feel of this image John. The scene and the composition work very well.

I'm all for a dark sky so no issue with me - it brings the focus down to the landscape below. However, my tuppence worth is the foreground could be a little brighter. not much mind you... Plus a 16x9 aspect, for example, may suit this more. As I said, I like the creative use of darkening a sky, but in this image reducing the amount of sky may bring the landscape a little more into the image, drawing the eye, etc...

I like that a lot. I personally like how the lighter part is sandwiched between the darker bits. It has a good mood to it.
