 what is it.. everyone who buys some lights gets the same thing .. everytime . keep away from the white b/g steer clear of the venture style...
dont get me wrong i realise everyone needs to find there own style but come on guys . i would like to know why everyone seems to be sooooo against it..

i have trired other b/g myself and will continue to try things but most people i have shot for always go for the white...;)

i think i know why this is:D and its to do with peoples conceptions of a pro shot imho....

probably goes in most people's rooms too :)

White and black have a classic modern look and feel. I have a few but w&b are the favourites.

Probably for the very reason you have stated. People (non - photographers) like it and therefore its seen as cliched and commercial. Personally I like the clean images it provides but will play with different b/g's.

Feel free to ignore me I've been on the wine!

It's saleable and it's what People (non-photographers) are asking and paying for!!

Not just non-photographers though.... I love the white background look and I love the black one.

I'm looking to take some of me and my family soon toreplace the ones of my Lastolite Wyoming bg taken a couple of years ago. White is likely to be the choice :)

The customer is the one paying, if they want a background thats green with purple spots then its their choice!
Personally I am not keen on the white background pictures, but if I was doing pictures for a paying client and it was what they wanted my own likes and dislikes would not come into it.

Not really their choice if you don't have one :)

All of the above probably reinforces md's point. It's what the public want and as photographers, just like any other hobby or profession, we can fall into the trap of seeing something that the public like as commercial and having less value than other forms of photography. As such we look down our noses at it and tell people to be more creative.

The same could be said for another regular love it or hate it thread that appears, I refer to a processing style that dare not speak it's name.......

just imho... ducks for cover

White is easily our most popular, we offer about half a dozen choices, but about 85% go for white, with black as a second place, and couriously bright chroma green as a close third? not my taste at all, but they are paying. Wayne

I think many photographers think white is the easiest to do and as such is the easy option - but it's not, and in some cases it can be harder to work with than a coloured background as that may not need lighting at all

But many images date badly with coloured backgrounds, and especially mottled cloth ones or picture ones, whereas white doesn't date and if the clients wear the jeans/light t-shirts too it dates even less

I've often had unbelievable snobbery aimed at me for it, and funnily enough on here by someone known for their own specialist (not to everyone's taste) area too - there's an irony there

Venture create ART based on photography, I applaud them for it and envy their great successes - it's given me an idea in fact ;)
