Just wondered how many people have moved from Canon to Nikon or Nikon to Canon and why?
 
Twice from Canon to Nikon, first time was because of the MKIII af fiasco, i had 3 seperate bodies, second time was sort of the same reason with the MKIV plus the fact i was ****ed with Canon repair service and customer service who failed to repair my 400mm f/2.8 L IS which couldnt focus on anything, eventually it was a guy at the Manchester Calumet drop off centre who picked up on the problem and emailed Canon with the solution.

Never again Canon
 
I allmost went to Nikon after I sent my 300f2.8 for a service and calibration check, it come back unusable.3 times they had it but it was spot on when I got it back the last time,it ended up costing me nothing and they even did a full service on my old mk2N for free.
 
Yep, jumped to Nikon when it became obvious the only Canon cameras that could do what I needed were the 1dsIII and 1dIV. Nikon had two cameras that did the same job for less money.
 
Would hardly say I jumped ship as I was hardly on board =P A bit of a silly reason but I prefer the af lamp of Nikon over the strobe of Canon. That and the lenses I want and in my budget are cheaper and better than Canon equivalents.

Also I have no interest in video making at all.
 
I jumped from Nikon to Canon via Panasonic, simply because I liked the feel of them better :)
 
went from nikon d70 to a canon 30d but didnt like the canons handling, so back to nikon with a d90 then a d7000 and a d300.
 
Are these the only two brands available then? ;)
 
This probably doesn't count but I had a Canon ixus compact first then progressed through a Panasonic FZ45 bridge camera to Nikon because a friend who was willing to share/lend lenses had a D90 so it made huge financial sense to get a Nikon.

I am a Nikon user but when I am at airshows stood beside Canon users with there 100-400 I often start to question whether I should make the leap. When will Nikon sort out there 80-400!
 
I moved from Canon 7D to Nikon D700. I shoot a lot of indoor equestrian. Never quite felt the love for the 7D. The D700 on the other hand gives me goosebumps...
 
I went from Nikon to Canon a few years ago.

There was no specific reason other than I found myself with very little in the way of lenses at the time I came to replace my body and of the two or three bodies I considered - I liked the feel of the Canon.

I was very tempted to go back to Nikon when the D700 was released but by that point I'd invested more in lenses and children.
 
Have kept my Pentax K-5 but bought a Canon purely for the MP-E.

Have since purchased a few L lenses and thought about going over to Canon 100% but imo Canon doesn't presently have a crop camera that can match the Sony sensor in my Pentax for ISO and DR performance.
 
Canon to Nikon.

The Canon range of small cameras was a bit lacking TBH and I hate stupid floppy screens. The D7000 is the smallest weather "proof" camera out of the two main brands as well. The 7D is bigger and more expensive so... The Canon lens selection is still significantly better for my needs though, Nikon need to release reasonably priced (comparable to Canon) 70-200 f/4's, 70-300 (L) and 300 f/4 IS lenses!
 
I went from Canon to Nikon when the d90 came out. Used lens prices are on parity, so the conversion from one to another once you have a body you like is unlikely to cost you much.
 
Canon compact -> Panasonic compact -> Nikon SLR -> Panasonic m4/3.

I've still got Panny compact but thinking of changing it for a Canon, and may switch the Panny m4/3 to Olympus.

All this within 3 years :bonk:
 
Nikon D50 - Canon D30 - Canon 400D - Sony A100 - Olympus E500 - Canon 450D - Canon 30D - Nikon D5000 - Canon 500D -Nikon D200 - Nikon D70S - and finally present Nikon D90 and Nikon D200.

Fair bit of moving around. :P
 
I was Canon (& Bronica) user for many years in the film era then I had it all nicked in the early 90's and I didn't bother to replace it. Only recently got back into photography as a company was liquidating their Nikon cameras that were 'damaged' - cost me about £30 and it was bundled with other bits and bobs so couldn't refuse it. Now its costing me a fortune!
 
Canon EOS1-My own when I was a student/early days of freelancing, better than the equivalent F4.

Nikon, FE2/F3/F4/F5/NC2000/D1/D2/D2h-Staff photographer for newspapers, had to use what I was given.

Canon- EOS1ds/EOS 1dmk2/EOS 1dsmk3-When I went freelance, did consider a D3 when it came out but the switch would have cost me around £11,000 and clients have never noticed when I get a new lens/camera, just not cost effective enough to switch. The mk3 has been a fantastic camera :)
 
Canon 50d to Nikon D200,now D300s. The 50d was biggest bag of b*****ks I have come across,numerous problems with it and Canon's customer service was/is cr@p.

I started with a Sony A200, then moved to a Canon 40D.

I changed to Nikon last year mainly because I'd when I'd used other peoples I liked the feel of them, and I was curious about the dark side!

I had contemplated moving back to Canon and getting a 5DMkii, but ended up going for a D700 instead.

There's still something about the 5Dmkii images that appeal to me though, but I can't see myself changing again.
 
Never really been a Canon person,my 1st DSLR was an 20D we I got on with ok,but been with Nikon most of the time Film & Digtal :)
 
Canon 450d to a lumix g10,g1,gf1,back to a g1 and now back with canon 40d.
 
i went pentax to canon - because at the time there were no decent pentax dslrs (the original *ist being crap ) - i was helped to the decision by rolling over a floating hide and killing my Pentax MZ-S and 400mm - the insurance payout from that , plus the sale of the rest of my pentax film kit bought a 10D (when they were new) and a 170-500
 
Haven't jumped ship myself, but Have many friends who got Pentax DSLRs originally but jumped to C/N because they wanted to go full frame. Still amazes me that Pentax has APS-C and 645 but no FF...
 
I was with Canon, wife got into photography and started with Nikon (she didn't like the Canon's), so when I upgraded I went with Nikon, it makes sharing lens easy.
 
Hmmm - Quite a few have moved from Canon to Nikon.
Should I save up for a Nikon D700 or Save up (would take a long time) for a Canon 5D mk3 or Nikon D800?
I only use it at home for portraits of my 4 year old son. He moves quite quickly so more speed and accuracy (as well as image quality) would be good.
 
To be honest any of the models you mention would be fine for that as indeed would be the 650D, 60D, & 7D (or the nikon equivalents) - come to that you could buy a canon 40D or Nikon D90 second hand and spend the money you save on lenses.

at the end of the day any modern DSLR will do what you want - and speed asnd accuracy has more to do with the lens, and the photographer anyway.

I hope you kept your lenses for both system's, or that level of indecision could get expensive

It did take almost 30 years :D

Canon 620/630
Nikon F90's
Canon 10D
Nikon D70s D80
Canon 400D and onwards

There was even a sojourn with Minolta 9000's somewhere in the middle.

I went from Nikon 35mm SLR to Fuji bridge and then to Canon APS-C DSLR when I decided bridge wasn't for me because everyone said Canon were better than Nikon. That was then but these days I don't think there's any doubt that Canon lags on DR and ultimate IQ so if just changing from 35mm SLR to DSLR now I'd stay with Nikon.

Actually these days I mostly use Panny MFT though.

actually i'd say there was quite considerable doubt about that - but lets not turn this into one of those canon vs nikon debates.

I'm increasingly tempted to get a panasonic csc, not to replace my dslrs, but just for walking arround/keeping in the car - for times when the 40D is too bulky/heavy/or valuable
