I prefer the Nikon bodies and the Canon lenses. Wouldn't say the 'ultimate IQ' is something I could distinguish between the two though.

Have to say, I feel exactly the same. I like the Nikon body line up, particularly at the higher end (though the 5DIII look good!) but I do think Canon have the better lens line up. I don't necessarily mean that their lenses are better as I've never really seen any comparisons but they do certainly seem to have more bases covered, particularly telephotos. It's not enough to make me jump ship as Nikon actually offer everything I need but I can see why others might.

actually i'd say there was quite considerable doubt about that -

I think you're the only one :D

IQ is perhaps subjective and much can be done with colour and contrast etc in post capture processing but looking at things that can be measured like DR and there's no doubt at all that Canon can't to date match the best Sony sensors used by Nikon.

that may or may not be the case - but its only really of interest to those of the pixel peeping persuasion, as for those who's interst is in taking great pics , rather than carrying out lab tests, the higher end Canon DSLRs are certainly capable.

I'm not knockling the nikon range either - i'm sure if you have a suite of nikon glass already the D800 is a great camera - but i'm not seeing anything thats significantly persuasive to make me want to change all my lenses in order to get a D800 rather than 5D3

I moved from a Nikon D90 to a Canon 550D because of the weight. The 550D is so much lighter with a 50mm on it as opposed to the D90 with a 50mm. This was a must due to arthritis

The images straight from the Canon seem on a par with the D90 from the Nikon

Back focus on the 17-55 2.8IS led me getting rid of all my canon gear to getting a Nikon d7000 and recently bought a D700

Canon 10D to Nikon D700 because Canon had nothing to match it at the time.
