Not sure if this is the correct place to post this but here goes and please bear with me.
At the moment my main interest is sport but due to the market place shrinking and retirement looming I will be looking at pursuing my 2nd love which is wildlife/birds
As I am thinking of upgrading my 1d mk 4's and looking to the future has any body who shoots wildlife/birds used or using the 5d mk iv
Is the AF fast enough and is 7-7.5 god quick enough
Also as it is full frame with a 400 mm will I have enough reach?
Or is s better option to go with s 2nd hand 1dx
(The 1dx mkii is out of my price range so is a non starter)
If anybody has any wildlife/birds taken with a 5d mk 4 could they please direct me to your web site
Hope all that makes sence and thanks in advance

7d2 is the way to for me its a great camera and paired with a sigma 150-600c great for wildlife

The best way of deciding between the 2 cameras is by seeing what you normally shoot and how. Both are quality bits of kit, no doubt, but they squeeze that last couple of ounces of their abilities in different ways.

Simply put, if perched birds are your main target, then the 5d iv is a clear winner. However, if you intend to shoot birds in flight or faster moving subjects such as running hares, then I'd be leaning towards a used 1dx. As well as the faster frame rate, the 1dx drives the lens faster for initial focus acquisition due to the bigger battery, but both should be similar at holding focus as long as your technique is good.

Which 400mm have you got? That will make a difference as well. You'll more often than not want more reach so prior planning and fieldcraft will go a very long way here.

As a review, try this for starters

thanks for that Mike, I have the 400 2.8 is mk i and strangely i have just got an email from Canon CPS to tell me that support for that lens is discontinued.

Hi I have been using the 5D MkIV for wildlife. Find it works well for my purposes with nice noise capability. Virtually none till after 1600 ISO. 5000 usable. Good shutter speed and the ability to AF up to F8. So 2x converter with 300 F4 is usable. ( And my 500mm )

Example on my this website of mine - the most recent ones all have been shot using it.

This article was my first try out and shows the ISO performance and 4K video

7dmk2 is nice camera too - my brother has just got it and also focuses nice and fast, slightly higher frame rate and crop sensor.
examples he has with 100-400mm mkII here

I can't really understand this thread ,it sounds like you already have more than one 1D4 ,they are the best wildlife cameras out there imho ,offering a decent crop ,with fast shooting and focus ,they are that good in fact that the used price of good ones is artificially high .
the only upgrade I could suggest would possibly be for you to get a sigma 150-600 sport for the extra reach coupled with the 1d4 it's a killer combo and with a 1.4 tc will give 840mm reach
