Yes, sad news - heard it on the radio earlier on.

I remember him in "it ain't half hot mum" - can't see this being repeated though... :)

My wife used to be a nurse and dealt with his cancer treatment at times. She says he was a really lovely guy, nothing like his onscreen persona.
 
Crossed paths with him on the Isle of Wight many years ago.

Stopped for an ice cream from the little shop that used to be by the pool in Bonchurch. I was going in just as he came out. I looked at him thinking 'I know you' and he said 'Hallo lovey boy'.

Made my day :)

Appears he had a cottage up the hill in Bonchurch.
