Hi,

I shoot a lot of sporting events on my Nikon d2X and I would like to use wireless technology to transfer the data; (sending the images straight from the camera to my onsite computer). The problem is I am often a couple of football pitches or a full race track away from the onsite booth with the computer. Is the current wireless technology sufficient to transmit images these kind of distances? Furthermore, there are often numerous distractions in-between the camera and computer (overhead power lines, buildings, people with mobile phones etc).

Initial investigation has pointed to the WT-2A wireless transmitter has anyone used these? I have also read about wireless compact flash cards that are a fraction of the cost ... does anybody have any experience with these?

Thank you in anticipation,

Martyn

You should be able to get the wt-2a for the D2x pretty cheap, seem to remember seeing ones for £75ish? try ffordes and similar 2nd hand places... The eye-fi cards are a bit finnicky and need you to get a cf -> sd adapter and take the metal sides off it...

Hi Dave,

I checked out the ffords site and called them up (site was down) I was not familiar with them so thanks for that heads up .. I will keep checking with them.

If anybody out there has any experience with wireless technology particulalry the with the wt-2a would love to hear from you :-)

Happy shooting,

Martyn

You wont have the reach I dont think. I haven't tested them myself though

You would at least need WA-E1 which gives upto 150m range (standard attenae is 30m) - i believe this is compatible with WT-2A

check out the event photographers society forums, there's quite a bit of discussion about wireless transmitters on there. Check mifsuds, ebay and the whole load of other 2nd hand camera kit shops that I can't remember the name of too :)

I have the Canon version and I doubt if the range would extend to two footy pitches. i think the range is similar to a wireless router.

Great when it works though.

Gentlemen thank you once again for your help ...sorry reply has been slow (Jim I have been to your neck of the woods snowboarding) ... I will probably buy a bike and hire a healthy student :)

Thanks guys
