Yes
I've been doing some shots for my daughters junior football team.
I took this one on Saturday. And can't make my mind up. Is it better with or whithout the ball. In the original shot the ball was missing.

With. Makes the action more relevant. Shame there is a lad directly below as id like to have seen it as a tighter crop. I photoshopped a ball into one shot of my lad playing football to make it look more of an action shot

I think without is better, not least because they are all looking out of frame which means you could never get the ball in the right place.

Yes I do think the ball is slightly out of line, this can easily be rectified.
Thanks for the comment.

Agreed, on them looking out of frame. I like the anticipation on their faces.
That I think is ruined with the ball. It was on a suggestion of my daughter to put the ball in.

Agree with both- just incase you wanted someone else to say it!!!

Id say something like 3 but cropped tighter so the group on the left were out of the frame

any action shot for footy really need a ball in the frame. only exceptions are shots of controversial decisions, reactions etc

why not make teh best of the two like this

Moving a ball in an sporting image is a cardinal sin, punishable by 30 lashes of the cat'o'nine tails. Moving a ball so no-one is looking at it is 40 lashes!!

To the OP - "any action shot for footy really need a ball in the frame. only exceptions are shots of controversial decisions, reactions etc" what Andy said

Agree with most comments here that it looks way better without. You won't get the ball in the right place as they are all looking off-camera. You'd need it further right and higher imo.

Thanks, for all your views. I have decided to leave the ball out, and give my daughter 40 lashes.

Got to agree about without the ball. It would be ok with the kid under it was looking a bit move towards it.

its a spot the ball thingy
without it defo
it adds creativity in the observer...and doesnt give a mean focus point
you look at the players then

It was a bit of fun, no one said about the cars that got stolen.
I think the boys are looking at where the ball might be going i.e. looking ahead like any good player should.
Be good for a spot the ball all looking at different places :lol:l

Here is a slightly different take on it. It's where I imagine the ball was 'going' to enter the frame.....

They're still not looking right at it mind! :bang:

From all the answers here, you clearly need to add one ball for each player and ensure it is right in front of their face so they can't miss it.

Easily sorted in about 2hrs in Photoshop.

Prefer without the ball, looks strange otherwise as everyone else as said. Would have been nice to have it though

More importantly.....
I've been doing some shots for my daughters junior football team.

They're all boys!
