Yes
this might sound a bit crazy, but
on my 30 d i have problems keeping the horizon straight. even on tripod with hot shoe spirit level.
when the bubble is central camera looks wonky. and i always seem to be straightening the horizon in photoshop
last night i went out with my new (2nd hand 5d mk1) and no such problem.
just going through the images now and all are perfect. even the hand held ones are good
i was beginning to think my head was wonky. nearly all my handheld shots had wonky horizons as well
could the 30d have a problem
its had many a fall in the past, could this have caused it to misalign .not all were wonky but thinking about it, a good majority were

I would say it's worth sending it off for a check to make sure the sensor hasn't been jogged wonky by one of its falls. May be worth checking your bubble levels against a known level just to make sure they're telling the truth.

i was out last night with the 5d and not one problem
think ill have to set up both cameras in identical situations and test them both out
after using this 5d i can see me wanting to use the 30d or my 350 d again
the 5d is so much better, and it really stands out

Yes, but it might be worth getting hot shoe spirit level calibrated first! ........ ;)

how do you calibrate a plastic spirit level ??
i have 2 of them and carry them both with me, so if both seem to be giving same results. looks like its not them, and seemed fine last night on the 5d

You could try testing it against a level around the house, brickwork, sill, anything level really, setup the camera check the spirit level and line up the top or bottom of the viewfinder with the sill or whatever. If its' not level then it's probably the sensor.

Yup, or at least checked! I have 3 bubble levels and 2 of them are out. I also have a Seculine digital level and that's 1) spot on and 2) easily calibratable if necessary. (Oh, and the D700 has a built in level which is spot on too).

if you have the camera on the tripod get the horizon to line up with the top of the screen then just pan up and take a shot this will tell you no need for any level

That's fine IF the head can be tilted back and keep level from side to side - I use ball heads and it's not so easy with them!

Or, mount the level on the camera it'll be used on then sit the camera on a known to be perfectly level surface (check with a known and trusted long level or a ball bearing) then see how the bubble sits. A quick, careful swipe with a needle file can be used to remove a tiny amount from the hotshoe mount of the level until the bubble's perfectly centred.

thanks for all the replys
i need to do some testing to see if i can get to the bottom of it
but like i said at beginning of post. the 5d mk1 seems fine.
ill check them all later. including on my 350d as well
