WooHoo! Fuji HS10 & images!

Cool. I've just come back from Tesco with some part baked bread, cheese, and other groceries. Anyone else just love Saturday shopping?

What are you getting Edward?
And Lee yes I quite enjoy my grocery shopping most weeks...

Hate Saturday shopping, too bloody busy. I prefer when I finish work on a Thursday at either 10.30pm/2.30pm then the weekends my own

Although I'm just about to pop out to PC World to pick up a back up Hard drive EG suggested.

:DThought you were getting the Fuji? What are you getting now

Got the Fuji HS10, one of the first in the country!

Just been having a play with it, it's bloody good. Will post some images later!

Quite impressed so far with the quality of the images for such a small sensor, I also quite like the 4/3rds aspect ration (16x12, 12x9 and 8x6). Quite chuffed to have one of the first in the country!

Here are a quick couple of images, exif intact!

My wife, 1600 ISO, 1/50 sec @ f5.6 (approx 210mm ff equiv)

My grandsons Argyle keeper's shirt at full length (720mm FF equiv) at 6400 ISO, 1/350 sec @ f5.6

I will take some more pictures tomorrow and give a mini review, but certainly the best high ISO shots I have seen from a small sensored camera (and I've had quite a few).

They do look very good I have ordered the panasonic tz38 because I couldnt get the fuji HS10 in time for a birthday so will have to wait a bit longer to get a fuji but going off these dont think it will be too long thanks Ed for posting these pics

I had a quick walk though the local woods this afternoon with my wife and grandchildren, took some pictures with the HS10, it is not as reactive as my 1DsMk3 (couldn't really expect it to be), but as a camera for taking on holiday to cover all bases it is really good, provided that it's limitations are understood.

Selection of images below, all handheld, no flash. I have tried to give a varied selection with a portrait, macro, long shot, candid and action shot (as my wife and Lucus slid down the slope). Exif data should be fully intact!

The images have had very little PP, just resized for the web and a little USM.

Great pics Ed, what would you class as the limitations of the camera? How good is the image stabiliser at the long end?

Will you be doing a bit of a review at some point?

Cheers

hmm its a really good camera, but dare I suggest that my S9500 looks a bit better IMHO. Seems to be a little sharper in my opinion...will post some later maybe if OP doeesn't mind

I don't mind, its all about being informed.

I'm happy with my HS10 though, early days yet and I am sure I am not getting the best out of it at the moment.

The first limitation is the manual is on CD and therefore a pain to enable quick pickup of all the features. 2nd would be the focussing speed compared to a DSLR and it is positively sluggish compared to the 1D series.
One of the problems, is that for what is essentially a camera that is aimed at someone who does not want the perceived complexity of a DSLR it is one of the most featured cameras I've come across, and whilst some of the features offered are just gimmicks there is an awful lot to learn to get the best out of it!

It is too early to give a decent review at the moment, but I am quite impressed with it so far, and hopefully will have some time to learn more about it in the next couple of weeks.

Some 100% crops of the images above! No noise reduction other than that provided as standard by the camera!

How does the camera perform in strong contrast situations. Fuji bridge cameras usual exhibit a lot of purple fringing..

Dunno! I've only had it 24hrs, will try to get some more images this week!

Thanks Ed, i was really interested in the AF, i really like some of the idea's on the camera. I didnt expect it to be anything like a 1 series but hoped it would be fairly snappy.

I'll keep an eye out once you have had it a few days.

I played with the HS10 last weekend before it hit the shops and was disappointed with the low light shooting but took it to Cardiff Castle on the the Sunday in bright sunshine and it was great I was really quite impressed! Even on full zoom!

Could you post some images taken at 3200 & 6400 ISO, 24mm, 400mm, 500mm, 600mm & 720mm.

Some HD video would be good too!

The S950 has less than half the zoom capability of the HS10 at only 28-300mm. I say "only" but you get what I mean as I'm comparing it to the 720mm zoom of the HS10. Compare both at the same focal lengths and it's going to be a pretty fair fight!

Fair enough, good point. Sorry I didn't mean to be critical. I only mean't in MVVHO is all, I'm uploading 1600 in the morning, I'm shattered now.

Gotta say I'm not feeling it at all from these samples. Just being honest.... IQ looks very icky.. blown highlights everywhere...bokeh is harsh and high ISO poor like a watercolour picture that just run.

I think a super zoom is a bridge to far on a DSLR, let alone such small sensors.

Well here are some quick grab shots I took last night. In Program, but apart from upping the ISO to 1600, no manual intervention as regards the exposure. Also had on the Fuji 0.8x wide angle converter. To me, seems a touch sharper, which considering it is around 5 years old, I think is pretty good.

sure, would you mind telling me how I do that in CS3? Never done it before, just usual cropping! :bonk:

I agree. The 100% crops nearly made me barf!

The picture of Ed's wife holding the glass looks like something that would come out of an iPhone. I'm positive I got better images out of my DMC FZ-20 bridge - and I would upload some - but I am jetting off on holiday in a minute!

How are you going to do that all planes are grounded:lol:
