OK clever people here is my problem.

I've created and typeset all my wedding stationary (menu's, order of service etc) based on A4 paper size I've went to print them out tonight and the specialist paper is US letter!!!! Bloody awkward yanks!!

Now the menus are single sided documents so I got round that issue by printing as a pdf then selecting US Letter as default paper size in printer pref and setting resize to fit paper.

BUT the order of service is being duplex printed so the above won't work. is there a quick way to sort this to save re-doing it all?

ta

Joe

PS I get married next saturday but the stress is killing me!! :bonk:

Can't you just change the page setup in Word? Or does that throw the layout out too much?

Hi Musicman completely throws the layout, the way I'm doing it anyway.

The pages consist of 2 textboxes each containing a jpeg plus text overlay.

How do you mean duplex won't work? Adobe will handle that as the printer software does it all...

One other thought, if it works with the margins you have and assuming you've 10.6, though I'm fairly confident this will work with 10.5 too.

Print each page separately to a PDF: range 1 to 1 and then 2 to 2 (page1_A4.pdf and page2_A4.pdf).

Reprint them to a PDF file as US Letter from Preview as you did before (page1_US.pdf and page2_US.pdf).

You can then open page1_US.pdf in Preview

- pop out the sidebar

- now, here's the critical bit, go to Edit > Insert Blank Page. This turns your single page PDF document into a multi-page one, with a Binder icon.

- you can then drag page2_US.pdf from the Desktop onto the Binder icon in the sidebar.

- select the blank page in the sidebar and delete it.

- Save the file as allPages_US.pdf and you have a 2 page US Letter PDF document that you can print duplex.

edit: if you have an earlier version of OS X, or it doesn't work with 10.5, download Monkeybread Software's Combine PDFs, which does what it says on the tin.

Lol get into the full print dialogue and you will be on a winner. If not send them over and I will get them printed for you at our printers :)

When printing pdf from preview it didn't give that option, but i was only printing one page....wait a minute!

Nope there is no print options at all when printing from preview, it doesn't even allow to print 'n' number of copies!

I'm getting desperate. I'm sure windows could do this easy!

Musicman I'll try go through that.

smoothedit, thank you loads for the offer but need to do it here due to the unique paper, seed impregenated lotka paper.

how to get up the full print dialogue?

I'm usually quite savvy but still a relatively Mac newbie.

Just to check - you are going to File>Print in preview? It should be able to do it too...

There's a blue triangle next to the name of your printer in the print dialog.

Click on it to reveal the full print dialog. Same as any application on OS X.

You can change the page setup for the whole document and print to US Letter with scaling.

In my last post, I'd assumed you'd tried this and it failed for some reason, but I just had a go and it gets you where you want to be a lot quicker than my earlier method.

Preview is generally a lot more versatile than Adobe Reader IME. Adobe disable printing to PDF from Reader, for example.
