I am currently trying to add a blog to my site, all is well apart from WP wanting to update to 3.2

copied from my admin page

An updated version of WordPress is available.

  • You cannot update because WordPress 3.2 requires PHP version 5.2.4 or higher. You are running version 5.1.6.

How do I update my PHP version and is it safe and easy to do....I am a Luddite with installs etc.

I have win xp sp3.

AFAIK the php engine is installed on your hosting company's server, therefore it is the company that needs to update to the latest version of php rather than you as a user. Which unfortunately doesn't help with you updating to the latest wordpress.

Pretty much!

Who are your hosts? Most hosts usually have an installer in Cpanel that allows you to upgrade php easily

VPS/dedicated maybe but not on shared hosting

To be honest I personally wouldn't want to host a website with a host that doesn't keep there PHP and MySQL installations up to date

I agree but I know nothing about it so I can't argue.

Just emailed my hosts today to do the upgrade Tom, which they did, but the MySQL upgrade is not yet done so still cant do latest WP update :bonk:
Since this thread, I have also messaged my hosts about it too. Thanks Yv.
