World Press Photo winners

The killer for me is the one of the tsunami aftermath, the high'n'dry ship shot. Stunning, literally, because it really brings home what happened there. A lot of the others are "human caused" problems but that one is about about something we can't, and never will, be able to prevent.

world press photo is the real deal, for me. The best photo collection around - the photograph as a story, the real art of communication. Those guys were there, behind the camera, right in the midst of it, Robert Capa style. Every shot is world class, I particularly like the libyan rebels and the polar bear.

Maria? The drug addict and sex worker, powerful image.
But sex worker! Really? I know beggars can't be choosers but she must be giving it away.
That sounds cruel, was the first thing that struck me once i read the blurb though, and i like to be honest

I am honest enough to admit that the same thing crossed my mind.Powerfulimage though but not my favourite by a long way.

My favourite is the one of the buildings with Kim ll-Sung. I love photographs like that. You look at it once and just notice a unique detail then the more you look the story of the image unfolds.

But they are all incerdible images....Thanks for the link

I must say i do have the deepest sympathy for people up against incredible odds, my comment on the image may have been harsh, but its a harsh image, who would have sex with her? Well, exactly! I dread to think!
The world is a cruel place and will always be, and we do need to be reminded, constantly. But what is being done about the atrocity and suffering some of these PRIZE WINNING images portray?

Rubbish. Not a single shot from the Cheddar Valley Gazette or the Wells Journal.

You ought to take a look at The Press Photographer's Year in that case, which is the UK equivalent.

2011/12 should be a fantastic show, given the events of the summer.

Don't knock the homegrown talent. They're capable of producing images that are every bit as powerful as those in the WPP, and in some cases more so!
