We travelled all the way from Berkshire to see Project Polar for ourselves... and very impressed we were too! Saw all four bears active and in together and although it literally peed with rain all day we had a fantastic time at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park. C&C always welcome - conditions were challenging and I wish I'd done better but such is life. First lot are all of Nissan & Pixel.

Thanks for looking :)

This is possibly the only chance you may have
to shoot these bears. I made more than 24 trips
to northern Canada to shoot wildlife including
these maritime bears among others.

It brakes my bear heart to see them in such con-
finement… one has to see them
free! In which case,
I would recommend a rather long lens to short one.

You could say that about any animal in captivity to be fair - and I think the enclosure at YWP is very good.

Lovely set. I do enjoy watching these two play together, they really do have a special bond :) Makes me chuckle how they react to Victor, still very wary of him ;)

I'm not having a go or anything Kodiak, but this might be worth a read

But i believe all of the YWP Polar Bears have been rescued from substandard conditions from around the world

And yes, by comparison to their natural habitat/wilderness, these are relatively small enclosures, but still the largest i have ever seen for any bears in captivity, and i suspect none of these bears could be reintroduced into the wild

............but lets not turn this into another Zoo's Good or Bad thread, lol

Back on topic though, you got some cracking captures, especially considering the conditions you had

Lovely set Fi.
Aren't they fab? I think they're doing a great job with the enclosures.

Don't get me wrong, Richard, I prefer to see them well
taken care of in a zoo than suffering and dying on the
ice shield or, sadly nowadays, where there is no ice.

That's why I recognized to FI: —"This is possibly the only
chance you may have to shoot these bears."

In my book, zoos are good as they educate people and
that may protect the animals still in the wild.

…and thanks for the link! :)

Thanks all - appreciate you taking the time to comment :)

I think YWP's enclosures are excellent and it was wonderful to see the bears. I do feel a bit for Victor atm as he obviously wants to approach them but you can't blame them for being wary of such a big bear!

When I saw him he was lying on his belly, his legs stretched out behind him...snoozing.
He's humongous!

He's humongous!
There is a sign there that says something about 45lb of meat for tea, let alone breakfast and dinner!
No wonder he's huge!

Loverly set Fi, especially #3
