hi, basic question your view on this.

70-200 f2.8 mk2 + 2x convertor = f5.6 at long end v 100-400L f5.6 at 400
which would give better results. i know the 70-200 would be the most versatile.
just going out so any replies will be read later. thanks brian

Apparently is verrrryy close now. On the older model, the 100-400 outperformed the 70-200, but I think it's almost too close to call on the new one. I'd say it depends what you're going to be using most, if you need 400mm regularly, then I'd probably still get the 100-400. If you want a fast medium length tele lens and occasionally need to get up to 400mm, then go for the 70-200.

I bought the 100-400 in the end as the IQ was better and the balance was better than the unbalanced handling of the 70-200 with 2x

thanks for the replies, i already have the 100-400 but would like some quality at shorter range too, comparison views were asked with view to selling 100-400 at a later date, but still having 400 range with the 2x. read through the link martin thanks, left me with plenty to think about, some cracking first shots by the way with your new lens. brian
