I think a little unicycle under its legs would make this shot :D

For me the 2nd one, however i agree with Pooley, Its lacking focal point.... i would have moved head on with the seal and focused on the eyes or nose. But having said that its still a good shot :D

I agree with what you said about Optical Stabilisation. abd because of that im swaying towards the Sigam. As winter is upon us and the amount of light is lower these days. I have a Manfrotto 680B with a Manfrotto 496RC2 Ball Head and a very sturdy tripod as well.
