Anyone else had a camera survive a mishap

Mine was a very near miss! Near Lake Pedder in south west Tasmania a couple years ago, early morning, and trying to quickly drive between a couple spots. I was using the D600, and had the D750 nearby. Switched to the D750 and put the D600 on top of the car. Decided to get to the other spot I...

    Non UK Tasmania locations

Depends - you say Tasmania, but where are you planning to go, and for how long in each? It's not uncommon for tourists to drive 2000km in 2 weeks in our little state, and it'll take longer for you to drive than it would on that darn northern island. Anyways, if close to Hobart, Mount Wellington...

    Deal or no deal.

That's a very grey line! I wonder how many countries grew 'their' territories by abuse of human rights. War, diseases, 'new world' explorers, 'settlers'. All the glass houses in our societies must be broken :( Yes: it's as good a time as any? If you support an economy going down the gurgler...

    Photographers ephemeris alternatives?

For Android, try PlanIt and Sun Surveyor. Both suitable for slightly different things, but very useful as an alternative. (PE wasn't available for Android, so I went looking for other apps. These seems the best couple late last year...)

    Photography Body Subscription Hassles

Not sure about the UK, but being strict, as a financial and business record there would be a requirement for NPS (now we know who :) ) to keep the terms and conditions that applied to your joining at the time. Not saying that it's an 'out', especially if they're not responding, but they couldn't...

'From Basics to FIne Art B&W photography ...' - A review

Hi Chris, Great summary and review, thanks muchly! I've thought about purchasing this book as well but too often find there's not quite enough of this, or too much of that. A preview of the book I looked at seemed to have a good page format and structure, and posts/videos from the authors...

What is the best 50mm lens

You asked "what is the best 50mm lens for a Canon full frame. Price is not relevant." but then said "I have the opportunity to buy the Canon 1.2 for the same price as the Sigma and I can't afford or want a manual focus Zeiss lens" So perhaps you'd like to be a bit more specific about...

    Editing 16bit

Depends how much other post-processing you choose to do... GIMP 2.9 includes 16 bit editing. It's a little slow, but it's free, and this is the development version. I've found it quite stable over the last few months but use it mostly for cloning etc as it's better than LR at that. PhotoShop I...

AF mode in exif data ?

Don't know about the D300, but pretty sure the D90 did when I had that. LR only shows you some of the contents; grab a copy of the free EXIFTool, drag and drop a photo onto the icon, and you'll see half a dozen pages of different EXIF. (Oops, just noticed you're on a Mac. Not sure if EXIFTool...

Is there any country more unsporting than the Aussies?

Hey, we can hope :) I'm sure I remember him walking, although maybe that was when he retired at 400 on 5 occasions. (We might stretch the truth a little too!). Maybe it's just coz I'm imagining another big win to the Aussies by Saturday? :P OMG, match fixing?? Who can I place a bet with?

Is there any country more unsporting than the Aussies?

Actually, Ricky Ponting was a walker, and almost as honest and willing to as Gilchrist was! I remember occasions, and first page of a google search just on Ponting walking gave: http://www.theroar.com.au/2011/12/15/what-to-make-of-ricky-pontings-walk/ Apologies for whingeing about a Pom...
