My advice to you is that you take as many pictures as possible from as many different places as possible. Once you have enough images you could publish something along the lines of “A season with ….”

I bought this software last week Arq and use it in conjunction with Amazon S3 "Glacier" class storage. I am using it as an archive and only intend to restore the data if every other backup of my data fails. I am very pleased thus far :)

Think Tank Shape Shifter is right up your alley ! In mine: 2 x D3s + 3 lenses: 14 - 200 mm + Laptop + lots of free space. A 400 2.8 will fit vertically inside the main compartment. If I pack carefully I can get 4 lenses and 2 bodies "somewhere" inside the bag. Most backpacks are a PITA...

I am of the opinion that you should buy what you want, what makes you happy and what you can afford. I doubt that a D4s/x will be released before 2014.
