It was a lowly 19 degrees here in Cornwall a couple of hours ago, then it started to rain...
We get our water from severn trent, and never heard of that?If he is in the Severn Trent area, you may not use a sprinkler unless you have a meter. I have used a sprinkler a couple of times on the vegetable patch but this is for basic food and I have a meter. I would never consider watering the lawn; they always seem to recover. If this was Germany, your neighbour would have been reported immediately.

36.3 here, and the forecast says another 3C rise later. It seems the predicted 42oC isn't happening here, mid 30's is about it.
It seems that the predicted thunderstorms aren't happening either,
but the temperatures are set to drop to low 20's early hours of Weds morning and hitting a 25oC high mid day Weds.
With a early evening shower...
We'll see ..

I'm not complainingCool part of the country
It will never change all the time you get things like todays DM headlinesBritish people seem comfortable living in the past - the summer of 76 (heat and drought), hurricane of 87 (Michael Fish), World Cup 1966, WW2, but rarely seem to look forward to the future and changing things. Maybe that's just my impression. Adapt or die is the reality of climate change.
I knew we'd get around to blaming the government for the added heat, sooner or laterIgnorant fools who happen to suppprt our current government many of whom agree with that sort of rubbish.
Isn't it due to brexit? Or the war in Ukraine? or Corona?I knew we'd get around to blaming the government for the added heat, sooner or later
How was that blaming the government?I knew we'd get around to blaming the government for the added heat, sooner or later
It can't be we left all that stuff behind including the hot weatherIsn't it due to brexit?
Good pointEveryone knows its those pesky immigrants that brought the hot weather with them.

So they can jolly well take it back off to Rwanda when they go.

Looks like the same here now, now 36.1 and been there for a while now.It seems the predicted 42oC isn't happening here, mid 30's is about it.

I was just thinking about this as news of the latest drownings came accompanied by much advice about how to avoid tgem, thermal shock and so on, But do the people who have these accidents watch or read the news? And headlines on front pages in the red press seem mostly to dwell on ‘sun & sex’ stories and so on.It will never change all the time you get things like todays DM headlines
Apparently we are all snowflakes and bedwetters when faced with a couple of sunny days.

It has gone up a couple of degrees here, but at least there is quite a breeze and opening 2 opposing windowsLooks like the same here now, now 36.1 and been there for a while now.

is helping a little.
Hope you gave the pedestrian you overtook a wide berthStupidity! You cant legislate for that!
Quite probably they think it will never happen to them, and/or they dont show proper care. Not to mention often its teenages/younger people and I know I felt invincible in those days! Even overtaking in a 1.3 Escort up a hill towards a bend when I really shouldn't have done so aged 17.
Most of us do take care though, we wear seatbelts, helmets on bikes, life jackets on SUP etc... For example, I know its overkill (having seen an electrician at work) but when I change a socket or switch I turn EVERYTHING off in the fuse box. I just dont know enough to stop me getting into trouble. But on things I am confident of I will take more risks (like having a few pints and cycling).
Same here, but with the breeze picking up I thought I'd give it a try, the curtains are still shut but the breeze is lifting them up.I have kept mine shut last 2 days (during the day) and curtains drawn.
I had to go out of the flat today as it was 34, so went and checked on Mum then went to town and sat in the shade even though it was still hot.
Sadly the experts have been saying this for god knows how long, and sadder still it will get worse.
Really, due to drop to mid 20s tomorrow and may touch 30c or so Sunday so not different from the norm.
At least we get a little bit of rest from this heat, then look out when it comes back again as summers are only going to get red hot from now on.
Yes, but I can't help feeling there is a lack of credibility "he says if the UK continues with a trajectory of high-emissions we could see temperatures like this every three years."One in every three years they say, but then the last few summers didn't feel that great. This has been the warmest one for a while.
How was that blaming the government?

Every journey begins with the first step.Yes, but I can't help feeling there is a lack of credibility "he says if the UK continues with a trajectory of high-emissions we could see temperatures like this every three years."
Which implies that if the UK stopped emissions, it would not occur.
I think the UK is just a part of the problem, and the "weather" would not reward us by missing us if we stopped all emissions, it would take every country to stop
Every journey begins with the first step.
We don’t know yet, summer is not over and I think another ‘heat event’ is forecast for August .While still rare, 40C is now a reality of British summers," says Dr Friederike Otto, senior lecturer in climate science at Imperial College London.
Rare - its happened once!!!
Over-reaction? Now not dismissing climate change, it is a one off event, temps for me are forecast to be 29c or below over next 2 weeks bar one day at 30. How is it a reality of our summers, it may not happen again for years!
