Is Panamoz "back"?

As far as I am aware HMRC use the shipping companies as unpaid collectors of this duty and vat

So what?

HMRC use Tesco, Sainsburys, BP, Shell, etc as unpaid collectors of vat.

What are you on about
If you order your shopping or even a camera online from Tesco the delivery driver isn't going to pull out some shipping documents and demand an additional £38 in import duty unlike DHL delivering your HK goods

Why would they? Any tax or duty has been paid by Tesco.

My post was a direct answer to your comment
HMRC use the shipping companies as unpaid collectors of this duty and vat

My reply was so what? How does this give you any latitude for evading tax , the law is simple (and ignorance is no excuse), if you import goods from abroad you are responsible, in law, to ensure you comply with tax and duty.

It shouldn't be any surprise when the courier gives you the demand.

where have I condoned tax evasion

If you don't condone it, why do you defend the HK sellers that are the cause for many people committing tax evasion?

Do all these posts have some secret message to tell people not to smuggle goods and evade tax and duty?

what's ordering an item from a .co.uk web site from the comfort of your arm chair got to do with going into your local post office and robbing it.

I think people are just trying to save a few quid not make a few quid
surf the net for the cheapest item

what makes taxing the people legal

why such strong feelings toward tax avoidance evasion or is this only ok if you are a multi million dollar corporation
mere mortals aren't allowed

If you are now saying you disapprove of it, your posts in this (and other HK threads) would have to be described as trolling.

quoting out of context is more of a trolling activity

Last post to you, you are clearly just on a wind up.

You asked
where have I condoned tax evasion

Those are your posts in this thread, so hardly out of context.

But, good night, Tony, lets just leave it there, now we know you don't condone tax evasion there's no need to continue the debate, is there?

Tax avoidance seems to be prevalent amongst big companies, yes, definitely.

Not sure how it is relevant to the people trying to justify tax evasion though.

Probably because "Tax avoidance" Tax evasion" both = lets not pay tax, it's just playing with words now, isn't it :)

No, it isn't.

Tax avoidance is what you pay your accountant for, he finds all the legal things you can do to pay less tax. It's quite legal, and whilst immoral when companies like Vodafone avoid huge amounts of tax, there is nothing HMRC can do unless Parliament change the laws.

Tax evasion is smuggling (in these examples), an item is brought into the country contrary to UK law. It is illegal and a criminal offence even if done through ignorance. HMRC can investigate and fine or prosecute offenders through the courts for evasion.

So like i said both of the above = lets not pay tax, however way you look at it, one (according to our government) legal but immoral but they still choose to let multi million pound companies get away with it, probably because they (the government) have got their own agenda, the other is joe bloggs trying to avoid it, so a much easier target, hence he gets hung drawn and quartered for it, well at least he does on here, it would appear.

Like i said before, personally i don't give a toss, if multi million pound companies can get away with it legally, good luck to joe bloggs in the street, whichever way he chooses.

So by your thinking, lets use death as an example.

Murder and suicide both lead to death. One is legal according to the government, the other isn't.

So suicide and murder are the same thing?

I would add, I don't care if people decide to smuggle a camera in and evade tax/duty. It's their morals that allow them to do it or not.

If they get away with it, good luck to them, while it isn't a victimless crime it hasn't directly physically hurt anyone, but for Gods's sake just shut up about it, there is no need for them to proudly boast in a post about how much cash they got away with.

This is a public forum, not the back room of their local where can boast to their pals about how well they did. Buy from HK, smuggle it in, don't declare it, no problem, just don't rub the noses of those who do have the morals to pay their taxes in it with their "I sneaked it past HMRC, I saved £100".

Whilst I hate the current government, I see the good of the NHS, the efficient public services, the reasonable quality of our roads, our public transport, even our welfare safety net keeping the sick, disabled and elderly safe, and everyone of those who cheats the public purse is stealing from that. Do it, but have the decency to keep quiet about it.

Accusing these hard working normal people of being smugglers and thieves is a little harsh and unfair Dave and won't get you many friends down the pub

You'll find that the handling fee the carrier company levies more than pays for this.

What I mean by that post is that the shipping company will charge /bill you for any duty tax or vat due according to the shipping documentation not HMRC

Sorry you lost me at "efficient public services".

I though the guy was being sarcastic when I read that post

Very poor comparison :shake:

Read through the posts from those who have bought from them and I think you'll find there have been no issues.

Sorry you lost me at "efficient public services".

Pick up the phone and dial 999 and someone is there to answer in a couple of rings isn't efficient? Ever been in a road accident and had paramedics, fire and police attend promptly and help you? Ever been to a GP or hospital for an illness? Have you ever ordered a passport? Have a regular bin collection? Fall down a mountain and you won't expect to be rescued? Your house catches fire you won't call out the Fire Brigade?

I could go on and on.

You wouldn't consider those to be efficient? Perhaps you should step away from the tabloids for a while.

Holier than thou attitudes aside are they worth ordering from?

From what I've read they're a reliable source of camera equipment. If you dig all the way through this thread I'm sure there are maybe 2 or 3 comments from panamoz customers.

Whatever you do though, don't come on here and start a new thread to say you bought something from them and hope that it stays on topic. It just stirs the big pot of crazy back up again. Every. Single. Time. :bang:

Do you watch the news. 999 was inundated with non urgent calls so they started a 111 service which was just a useless and ended up sending everybody to A&E anyway. Have you never heard of the people that call for an ambulance and end up waiting for hours for one to arrive. I made an appointment a couple of months ago. Had to wait 4 days to see someone. By the time I was due to go I felt a lot better so never went. I pay for bin collections (council tax) and even that is only done bi-weekly. Actually my council tax pays for police, ambulance and fire as well. Mountain rescue / Sea rescue are mostly voluntary and rely on donations.

Anyway, these are just a handful of public services. Ever applied for planning permission? Notice how the council will pay a fortune to put up a load of signs warning of potholes, but don't fix the road? Are these efficient.

I too, could go on.

Without taxes, there wouldn't even be anyone to put up the warning signs! (y)

unless the originating company misdeclares the value of the parcel - Panamoz may not but many grey sellers do

DHL or whoever will only bill the VAT/import tax based on the described value - it is the responsibility of the importer (ie the buyer) to declare if this value is not correct. (although increasingly HMRC are checking... see Horneys thread about his trauma with Drev )

Panamoz do misrepresent it Pete.

For example

One thing I forgot to mention is on the parcel they write something different to what is inside. My 70-300l had written "toy parts" lol

Plenty of people (including myself) have received orders from Panamoz with a negligible amount declared on the package and an incorrect description of the goods contained within it. People have asked for a VAT invoice with no luck. I have no issue whatsoever stating that on a public forum as it's fact, backed up by evidence.

Debate this crap all you want but no one, not even StuartR knows for sure if Panamoz are acting illegally or not so shut the hell up and go and bore someone who cares or get a woman, if it bothers you then go grass them up to the customs

Don't be an idiot, it's fairly well known that Panamoz don't pay vat or duty, but they aren't obliged to. Pamamoz simply act as an agent to the importer (who is the buyer in the UK).

It is a fact that the importer commits a criminal offence when he or she imports an item and does not comply with all their legal obligations.

It's a fact beyond any debate or stupid little insults you want to throw around.

Dave, youre agreeing with me, well done.

Seriously, if you lose sleep over it why dont you do something about it

I bought and paid for a lens which was shipped from a UK warehouse, i seriously have no idea if VAT was paid on it or not (i dont care either) nor di d i think i was buying anything a bit hooky and im sure there are thousands of other UK buyers who genuinly think theyre ""just buying a lens" not once have i ever check the terms and conditions of Jacamos website when i bought some shoes or trousers, why should i, i prefer not to sit up well past midnight in my underpants eating pop and crisps while tapping on my keyboard and flicking between porn websites and Panamozs terms and conditions, i have a life and dont really give a crap.

i prefer not to sit up well past midnight in my underpants eating pop and crisps while tapping on my keyboard and flicking between porn websites

Are you saying there's something wrong with doing that? That exact example probably accounts for 90% of Internet traffic.

I totally agree with what you are saying.

If someone thinks it wrong to buy from them because of this and that the answer is simple - don't buy from them (full stop).

I wonder what the reaction of the people on the forum banging on about smugglers and criminals is to people they see doing it in the real world. Do they inform the guy down the pub or in the street selling knock off dvds or suspiciously cheap cigs (just 2 examples) that what they're doing is likely to be illegal and that they're probably criminals ? Or do they only have the courage of their convictions on Internet forums ?

It seems to me, that there is some form of agenda going on on a lot of the photography forums about panamoz, now i don't agree or disagree on the legality issue but i do wonder how many people on this thread are also posting on the other forums about panamoz, and wonder if there isn't a little sour grapes involved with some of their prices some times not that far away from what some people want 2nd hand on ebay and some photography forums, the more panamoz get talked about in forums like this the more it will climb google search. Could this be a ploy to try and scare people from buying from panamoz?
