I don't think it's possible to assign a button. As a work around you can put spot metering into Custom shooting mode #1 and then use an MFn button to toggle into that mode.

I would try without the lens or with a different lens. A communication error between the body and lens can prevent the body from entering sleep mode.

When viewed from the non-emulsion side, the orientation is correct, viewed from the emulsion side then left and right are swapped.

In that case, I advise getting the deluxe version with the built-in commode.
