Never used that but I use spot metering and 3d tracking for birds , the spot metering follows the af box in 3d mode , works really well for egrets barn owls etc

Had a quick try of the Sony 600 f6.3 today , at my local reserve Martin mere there was a bird fair on and Sony was there . It is very light Af seems very fast

I am on holiday so limited with what I have used a small led light which enabled me focus on the Badger , badger was not bothered by the light or the Flash ,

Thanks that’s very helpful I am a novice with flash photo photography hate using it for wildlife. They don’t seem bothered by the flash they just carry on eating , I am hand holding the camera They come really close 10ft away at times I only have a 300 f4 lens , I will try stopping it down...

I am photographing badgers in the wild it’s very dark almost cannot see them . I am using a Nikon z8 with a Godox flash and 300mm f4 . Problem is z8 uses a green af assist light and the godox af assist is red won’t even fire, I am manual focussing but it’s hit and miss any ideas

Get a couple of air tags attach to your gear or bag , lots of copies on amazon i got 4 for £16 seem to work well .

Have a look at back country gallery web site they have a forum , lots of american bird togs on there , you will get good advise on there . I used. Z8 and 500pf .

my tuppence worth, I shoot a Nikon z8 with a 500 prime , my other half shoots a om1 with Panasonic 100-400, I edit all the photos .i have edited thousands ,of photos. In good light there’s not much in it . Recent Florida holiday it was hard to tell sometimes which was which , when it’s dull...

the 100-500 is a very sharp lens . nice and light and provides stunning images , as dale says all zoom lens are prone to dust .
