Thanks all for the feedback, some great points to consider, as always much appreciated :) for what it's worth I agree that #1 is the weakest link. I will go back and edit it with all the great ideas suggested - if I can get it better I'll post again :)

I looked at this yesterday and didn't like it, today I love it, how odd is that :) but, I would have shot with less foreground and more sky as I feel that gives a greater sense of scale and heightens remoteness , but that's personal taste and style.

I like these, and I don't agree with the lack of focal point, not always necessary if the composition is good, which i think these have. |second one as a nice retro quality to it (and ouch, hope it wasn't your shutter button hand ).

these are great. It's just a shame that that log is breaking the surface as it creates a focal point that doesn't go anywhere i feel.

I love the shot, but (and it is personal taste here) I think the outline and wording detract, making it look like a motivational poster

Thanks Ray, it was cloudy, there were hills, there was no light in the sky it really was pitch black. But I get what you mean :)

great set, I'm preferring the b&w ones as (on my laptop screen) the others seem a bit washed out, but composition spot on
