A suggestion to consider moving to cloud provided alternatives instead. e.g. Google Drive or Dropbox Plus. I ditched my Time Machine about 2yrs back and have not looked back. A lot less hassle with the added bonus of off-site storage (e.g. fire) and access from other devices / locations.

My work iMac 5k screen is very impressive. I have not used it for editing, though I've found my home (pre-5k) iMac (i7 3.4ghz) perfectly capable, though I use Aperture rather than lightroom.

I have not used mine for downloading images, but for sharing files across devices I find Dropbox quite beneficial.
