    Advice Sought - Colour Management

If your laptop has built in graphics with the intel mobile driver, be prepared for some more frustration as the procedures above work most/some of the time, but not reliably :( It's not insurmountable, but a pita to begin with, setting up a couple of tasks to re-load the colour management once...

    Help: Mac, CS4, Image background

The problem here is what to replace the striped sofa with. If just going for a plane(er) fabric effect, the difficult part is getting it realistic, instead of a flat area with no detail. It needs to be done well, at it is a large part of the image. The other option could be to replace the...

Need some help with image editing.

My offering, after a few hours work, on a particularly dull night shift. Only 15 shifts left, before going home for a delayed christmas :) 2010_0625promlamp by npurdie2003, on Flickr

    "Doll" photoshoot

Smooth skin, can be acheived duplicating the background layer, then applying some gausian blur to the duplicate layer. Mask off or erase the areas you want to be sharp, so the background shows through. The easiest way to get the cracked/flake effect would probably be to use an image of some...

    So I bought a Nikon D700, but I have a question!

How to set the menus and, what to press to get 8fps If you need more than 9 frames, then it's going to be a bit more expence. Also, if you are going to be using loads of raw or raw+JPEG frames at 8fps, consider what write speed can your prospective card take. Once the write buffer is full...

    So I bought a Nikon D700, but I have a question!

A burst, up to 9 frames at 8fps should be acheivable form a D300 or D700, by using the auto bracketing, with the exposure comp set to 0.

    Ultra Soft - D90 with 18-200mm

What does the 24-70mm look like when set to 200mm or 18mm? Or the 105Micro, when it is left at home because it isn't versatile enough. Hmmmm now theres a problem! Super zooms are a big compromise, due to the huge variation in field of view that they cover. For the 18-200mm, thats approx...

    Ultra Soft - D90 with 18-200mm

It appears "they all do that Sir" over 100mm and small f-numbers 50mm and f11 should be about the best compromise between center/edge sharpness. Worst point is probably 135mm, so you were not too far off this with your earlier tests at 105mm. You rotter, comparing it to a lens in the prime...

    Ultra Soft - D90 with 18-200mm

Mark If the 105Micro wasn't sharper, I would be wanting my money back on that. It is a prime lens, stopped down a bit. From the tests above, it is also showing only 80%ish of the image from the 18-200. There realy is no comparison. The only thing you will do is convince yourself the...

    Ultra Soft - D90 with 18-200mm

Theres not much point in sharpening loads of noise. Original, 100%crop posted earlier in thread. Running NoisewarePro, at default settings (so not extreme at all), followed by USM at 100%,2,3. Test_4_100_Crop by npurdie2003, on Flickr

Got one of my pics in the jump mag. Yay! :D

 Nice pic indeed. Well done. Now you know you want a trip to France, to improve on the pics across pages 26-41 :naughty:

How to deal with boring overcast skies?

As mentioned by Garry (Tirc83), Dull overcast skies rarely have no detail that can't be brought to life with some HDR style treatment. First exposure has very little detail in the sky, Jpg straight from camera, as it was set to high contrast mono. _DSC8812 by npurdie2003, on Flickr from...

    Tripods etc

To be about as portable as you can get, Joby Gorillapod SLR Zoom depending on price/weight/usability preference, with or without a ballhead fitted. Or one of the lighter versions if its only ever going to be a compact going ontop.

    Tripod woes

It may not be a practical option for you, but for the sake of a fairly quick flip, it's certainly an option. AND no heavier than a 190x ProB

    Tripod woes

Press in the little button on the side of the center column, to get it past the center support. Once it is completely free from the rest of the tripod, insert it from the underside. It does work, I have one  Live view makes composition a bit easier if your getting realy low
