A spot of Football... and Hockey...

Cheers folks! Thanks Shaun... In my never-ending quest to find the worst floodlights in football, here are a couple I've salvaged from some recent midweek matches: 1/250s, f/2.8, ISO6400 1/400s, f/2.8, ISO6400 Jubbly. ---- Gavin

A spot of Football... and Hockey...

Just a few bits and bobs from the last couple of weeks. I spend a fair bit of time on the famous Hackney Marshes... often hunting for the right pitch (there are 87 of 'em) so I can shoot the game I've been assigned to cover. Stop the ball and watch your opponent fly past... This is...

    A spot of Boxing...

Really appreciate the positive comments folks. Cheers! The action shots were taken with a 24-70mm f/2.8 lens... ideal for the the size of the boxing ring. The mask shot and the 'waiting' shot were with a 70-200mm f/2.8. ---- Gavin

    A spot of Boxing...

Been a while since I've posted... but pleased to see a dedicated Sports section in action! So here are a few from a show at York Hall last Saturday... Slightly disappointed with this one as I just couldn't the shot I wanted in a very crowded ring... but suffice it to say that some boxers make...

    Time for some Cricket...

Thanks for the kind words folks... much appreciated. Have to say I very much enjoy shooting cricket... possibly more than most of the other sports I cover. As for equipment, these are shot with a 400mm, with or without 1.4x or 2.x extenders... and the village cricket shot (yep oldboy, it's...

    Time for some Cricket...

With all the rain today, I was reminded how kind the conditions have been so far this season... so here are a few cricketing offerings that I hope might be of interest to some... A reverse sweep to start... Close to a catch... That'll be out then... ...and so is that...

    A spot of Football gubbins...

Thanks very much for the positive comments folks. As per Paul's post above, I can confirm that these were shot with EOS 1D MkII + 400mm f/2.8L (except the fan shot which was with a 17-40mm). The action shots were taken from a sitting position, perched on my Peli case. ---- Gavin

    A spot of Football gubbins...

A few from last weekend. Some every day action type stuff: Getting somewhat stuck in... Thwunk!... Should your boot be up there?... Oh dear... it's stuck to my toe... At least one of us has got our eyes open... Thwack... wham... Spleen-attack...

Bikes with no brakes... a spot of Speedway

Many thanks for the kind words folks. I was lucky in that these were taken during a practice session in good lighting conditions. Lens was indeed a 300mm f/2.8L combined with a 1.4x extender... all hand-held with an EOS 1D MkII body. ---- Gavin

Womens Football - local derby 28/1/2007

Good stuff Pete. The last one in particular is a peach. I've photographed a fair amount of women's football over the last 10 years or so and the standard (at all levels) has come on leaps and bounds. On a side note, I was under the impression that Bristol Rovers womens' team had become...

Sunday Morning Football on the Marshes...

A few recent dabblings from Hackney Marshes. I am found there - slowly sinking into the mud - most Sunday mornings as I have a regular booking for a couple of the local rags. Bizarrely, I wouldn't have it any other way! Some bog-standard tackling action for starters... Keeping your...
