£90 per hour for fixing a car?

you think so for 99 quid bet they put there best monkey on it
the only thing that will be done thoroughly is ticking all the boxes on the check list

I sat there and watched the bloke do it, believe me, he was thorough with all checks. Plus they have done small stuff for free too when they could have just left it or tried to get paid for it.

oh they will check quite thoroughly if they have any sense...the reason they do £99 services is its a loss leader, they can upsell from it on repairs... some will walk away without having the repairs, many will have them done, simply because the car is already there - simple business sense ;)

Yeah, the main dealer told me I needed 4 tyres, discs and pads all round and an exhaust when my car went in for a service.

Two weeks later it passed it's MOT without even an advise.... :cautious:

I never said they would all do it honestly, I just said they will do it ;)

Dodgy MOT.:thinking::LOL:

I'll never use a dealer for service and repairs ever again, bunch of crooks.

You'd think I'd know better, worked in hundreds of dealerships on buildings maintenance for years and years, so I know what they get up to...:shake:

I got a phone call from my garage the other day to say I had a brake light out, popped down and got it sorted and it cost me

£1 :D

Had the rear 1/4 chassis of my discovery cut out and a new one made and welded in last week. local Indy garage wanted £600, main dealer refused to do it, instead wanting a full new chassis at a cost of £5000.
I found a guy down the road who did it all, £350 all in. I think it worked out at about £15 per hour labour, the rest was materials.
I spend all my working days in garages and see the whole spectrum. Most main dealers treat the cars with contempt. I'd never trust any of them with my car.

Accident damage or rot Tom?

Silly Question there ;) it's a S2 Disco :D it'll be rot  My old Landie and Chassis work every single MOT I had it on the road :cautious:  still love em though :D

I never trust any garage with anything on any of my cars or bikes unless it is a certainty that I cannot do it.

I used to work in a garage when I was 16 and saw what we used to do to cars,(well not me personally as I was just a YTS school leaver) and vowed then never to trust any garage ever again.

Rot.. Lots of it!

Shiny and new now though. The MOT man was very impressed.

£40 first hour, £20 for any additional was what we charged, wit ha fixed scale for services with parts extra.

That was boats though, and I take pride in the fact that every one I worked on got my full attention, even on less than £7 per hour. I was even happier when I got calls just to tell me how happy owners were with their 30 year old Outboard that was now purring like new.

Main dealers have to charge silly amounts to cover not only overheads but also to cover the costs of things the monkeys break, give stuff away for free to customers to keep them happy cos the monkeys haven't done their job properly!

I do work in the trade at a VW main dealer though I try not to be a monkey!

Though I can sympathies's with people who go to a main dealer once have a bad experience and never go back again, our service advisers are shocking at times it makes me ashamed to work with them! Though if i didn't work in the trade I would always use my local garage as I never have a car newer than 5 years old so the point of using a main dealer isn't there for warranty preservation etc

Back when I was doing my C&G, one of my college classmates let a brand new car roll down a ramp, out his employer's workshop onto a main road, and another dropped a toolbox on to the bonnet of a car in for it's PDI, made worse for his working at a Rolls Royce dealership at the time

don't see how this is any different to uncle bobs shooting weddings for £100? Bearing in mind rent, rates, insurance etc... need to come out of that £15 how much is actual wages?

Agreed... I'm a bit paranoid though and don't trust anyone with any of my stuff, I'm very much a learn to fix it myself type.

I can't remember the last time I let a garage near my cars apart from MOT's. I built the Land Rover from the ground up, so the chances are I know more about it than the main dealer!

Sarah's hateful Mitsubishi L200 on the other hand....... Although most of the work on that has been done under warranty. 3 months out of the first 6 we had it, it was in the garage :bang: After that, servicing by a local 4x4 specialist at £35 per hour.
