Does this look slightly dodgy to anyone: 3 7D's for sale on ebay with different lens configurations from the seller: "good*electrical*auctions" all with the following statement regarding payment

"CURRENTLY, WE ARE ACCEPTING PAYMENT VIA THE FOLLOWING METHOD ONLY:

. BANK CONFIGURED PAYMENTS

(DIRECT BANK DEPOSITS & DIRECT BANK TRANSFERS)

IMMEDIATE PAYMENT IS REQUIRED AFTER AUCTION. PLEASE NO TIMEWASTERS.

THE PAYMENT METHOD LISTED ABOVE IS THE ONLY METHOD WE ARE WILLING TO ACCEPT FOR THIS AUCTION REGARDLESS OF ANY CONTRADICTING INFORMATION ELESEWHERE. NO NEGOTIATION. THIS METHOD ALLOWS YOU TO HAVE A FINANCIAL RECORD OF PAYMENT AND ALSO HELPS WITH OUR ACCOUNT REPORTS.

THANK YOU FOR YOU CONTINUED UNDERSTANDING. WE HOPE TO DO BUSINESS WITH YOU."

Here is an example

What does everyone think? I don't think I would personaly use any service other than paypal even if the guy does have over 100 positive feedbacks.

Usual rules... ...if it looks too good to be true... :suspect: ...it probably is... ;)

I thought sellers HAD to offer PayPal as part of the flea's rules... :rules:

Although the seller has 100% feedback it is only on a hundred or so transactions... :suspect:

Many of those have been 1p auctions and the selling ones are all listed as 'Private' so you can't see the detail...

Treat with utmost caution or steer well clear would be my advice fwiw... :D

So did I!

What is this all about as well: "THIS METHOD ALLOWS YOU TO HAVE A FINANCIAL RECORD OF PAYMENT"

You get a record with paypal?

Sounds really suspicious to me, no wonder nobody is bidding.

Never buy from anyone who has string of positive feedbacks on private items, who suddenly start selling expensive items, and only take bank transfer

I think you know where I'm going with this :)

This is 101% a scam. And they can try and sue me for saying that if they want to. But I suspect I won't be hearing from their solicitors.

Having had a look at the listing, it smells fishier than a rotten shrimp!

I've reported it to eBay for them to take a look as someone is bound to get drawn in and stung badly.

100% feedback, but you cannot see what any of the items sold were.

I would not pay for anything from an unknown source with Bank Transfer, Western Union or the like, no matter how good a bargain.

Report them, ebay will pull those items as they have to accept paypal

Item has been removed. Ebay are pretty hot on these then.

Yeah I just reported it as well.

I guess 3 camera’s + lenses equals about a 4 - 5k sell. Easily worth losing an account over.

It's scary how easy it must be to put up a dodgy listing. Ebay really should vet all listing over a certain amount I think, at the end of the day they are the ones hosting the dodgy sale and should really be liabile.

Agreed. It would be very easy to code this.

What is annoying is that as a seller if you put something like "as new" or "cash on collection" Ebay will pull the listing within minutes yet these obvious scammers seem to be able to list with inpunity.

Ebay do act quickly on reports, but I think they need to be pro-active.

Forgive my ignorance PD but why do they pull listing with as new and cash on collection? I'm guessing the latter is to ensure they get their cut? but the former has me puzzled.

Probably because there can be no legal definition of as new I suppose.

Perhaps they should start pulling 'mint' condition items too.

..

Common sense will protect most people from these sort of listings, always check the feedback and also who gave the feedback and look at them as well, that can sometimes be revealing. OK you may not do that sort of research for an item costing a few quid, but with a high priced items common sense rules or at least it should.

Yes, its so they can get a cut via Paypal.

Even though if you accept Paypal for a collection item, you leave yourself wide open to being scammed as you have no proof of delivery (which Paypal require for Seller Protection)

"as new" I believe is considered keyword spamminl.

What is very odd is that I won an item the other day and the chap was only 5 miles away and I asked if I could collect. He was fine with that, but wouldn't accept cash as he said it wasn't safe!!! Paypal only

Yeah, the 'as new' is considered keyword spamming - upsets people who search for 'new' items, apparently. I got caught out with it selling some camera gear about a year ago - a 7-day auction and they pulled the lot with 20 minutes left to go... donkeys... :D

LOL @ puddleduck... cash not safe!!
