Might sound like a silly question, but can I use any usb flash drive with the Aspire/Linux setup or do I need a Linux-specific one? Just wondering as I plugged one of my external hdds in and the Aspire is having none of it..:thinking: :shrug:

I believe Linux will see FAT32 and not NTFS. Is the external HDD NTFS?

That looks easier than wading through all these lines of sudo this and mousepad that on Linux to do anything :bang:
 
yeah, i tried to put that bridge building game on, and it wouldnt bloody work without installing a load of other crap as well. i gave up

my linux boxen see ntfs just fine.

And they have the bridge builder games installed.

I've never seen a windows box read reiserfs or similar though. Or run linux native software.

No, it just means you aren't using a debian based build.

Isn't there an "about" tab in the system menu? Or does it say what the name is on startup? It must say something.

Doesnt the One come installed with a hacked about version of Linpus? Which I've never used but I think is some sort of Red Hat derivative?

Do you have a system->install or add/remove software option?

Although I'm sure that I've read that the one is tied down a bit by default and you need to unlock it - it being sold as a utility device rather than a computer.
 
i have installed a copy of XP on mine now, works well. the version i used has had most of the useless stuff stripped out of it.

just installed corel PSP. it wont run well as the ram is too small, but when i upgrade the ram should work fine.(no good for doing big edits though). for general internet roaming etc, still works good:thumbs:
 
Not sure why I bothered answering this question, just reach for the windows disc first next time :thumbs:
 
It's worth persevering with Linux. I wish I had more experience with the operating system and it's derivatives.
