Alamy sales information question

Here's an Alamy sales question I hope someone can answer for me.

This link here shows the numbers of sales in the past month on Alamy - Not sure if those who aren't on Alamy can see this :shrug:

Anyways - top sales it shows as 4!!

Is this missing off some zero's? Is there something somewhere I am missing that says please note add 00 to all figures quoted?

it shows how many sales were made through certain searched words. I don't know if it still counts stuff that people maybe highlight as possibles and then come back and purchase later.

Are you referring to the ‘zooms’ entry for ‘roses’?

No, sales for Ecuador and pumpkin seeds!! They are the top sellers at 4 for a months period. There are some other 4's as well. Just seems like a low figure for over 16.4 million pics.

Only 4 pictures were sold with a search keyword of Ecuador and Pumkin Seeds.
That is different to total sales

But these are the top sellers - So there are loads more pics that have sold 1, just thought that the figures seemed surprisingly low.

These figures dont tend to be too accurate as they dopnt include syndication sales and a few other sales types. They are also not updated for account customers until a couple of months later I beleive.

There is a thread on this i the alamy forum too.

Also, what you to remember is there is 4024 pages with 20 sales on each. so 80,000 images sold that month minimum. Even at a tenner per image, thats still £800,000 turnover a month, and many images are sold for much more than that.

What's sad, is if you look at the figures for a year ago, the sales were much higher again. Unfortunately, microstocks are causing the robin hood effect.

I use Alamy but I've never once expected to make a fortune with it. I think the best way to look at sites like this is, think of it as something you can just add to over the years and make the odd sale here and there (unless you are a full on hardcore stock shooter of course) whilst concentrating on other ways of making money from your work.
