Yes
I rang up Camera Warehouse yesterday, ordered a Sigma 10-20 lens and payed an extra £15 for a saturday delivery. The plan was to get out today and sunday and have myself some fun.

I've sat in all day and i have no lens, Royal Mail tracking suggest its was last tracked sorted at the national hub. I cant get in touch with the supplier. I e-mailed Royal mail who say they will contact me in 2 days. Ive wasted a full day and now i probrably wont get the lens till tuesday. As im at work tuesday ill miss the collection and have to go to the depot 48hrs later.

My dog is also disgruntled as he's waited in all day too:thumbsdown:

The biggest pain is my widest lens currently is 50mm due to an accident with my kit lens so i cant go and take the shots i want this weekend.

Not a happy bunny and dont know who to blam!!!!!

I sent a parcel recently and it had a tracking number. It all tracked fine until very early saturday morning and then it didn't seem to move at all over the weekend and through to Tuesday morning when it wouldn't track saying there was a problem.

The parcel company responded to my email saying that the courier co had changed the tracking number. It had been delivered on Monday, but I stewed a whole day not knowing.

I also recently send a parcel by first class mail and it took five days to arrive, missing a birthday by three days.

I assure you it happens to us all!!!

Bloody hell, I sent a camera by RMSD last week and it was only an extra 2 quid for a guaranteed Saturday delivery before 1pm

It had to have a little SD sticker put on it and turned up good as gold

Ripped off all round there mate, no wonder you are cheesed off and rightly so

Sorry you have had a mucked up day. Its really irritating waiting for deliveries that dont arrive and then having to go and pick them up from the carriers. I have started giving the delivery address as my sons shop as he has to be there anyway, Have you got a friendly shop that would take delivery of it for you?If so then ring the carriers and make them change the delivery address,

Like on my rant last week about jessops this is the same....its not the company you bought off thats let you down its the courier and RM are pretty good yet Parcel farce are pretty bad even though the same people own them both but if you did pay the extra £15 for sat delivery then you are definately entitled to your postage back and some compensation, they did not hold their agreement with you end of story and you will not see your item till Tuesday thats 3 days over in real terms so go for the jugular mate I would

Would agree with the above, if you paid extra for gaurenteed Sat delivery and they didn't, you can claim your postage back at the very least as they failed to deliver to a specified day / date. Have you checked RM web to see what they say re non delivery on a specific day.

Despite this, I know you must be pretty ****ed off, I certainly would be.

Ive already mailed the seller asking them how they intend to re imburse me, they will probrably try to fob me off with a credit note but im not going to accept that.

I normally get parcels delivered to work as i know ill be there but as it was saturday i thought i'd be safe with home, stoopid me. The annoying thing is i really wanted the lens this weekend so i was going to get one from a near Jessops, I only rang Camera Warehouse by chance as i knew they delivered saturday.

Ive had good experiences before but Royal Mail have been sent to the naughty sep this time. Especially as the package made the National Hub at 01.00hrs, plenty of time to re distribute to me:thumbsdown:

Its not on, if you pay for a service then you should get exactly what you have paid for. Trouble is the penalty they incur for not being on time is nowhere near what it will have cost you.

I would be inclined to phone the shop and tell them that you now do not want it and on top of this you want compensating for your inconvenience. I know its not their fault but its up to them to kick butts as its their customers that its affecting

Good luck what ever and sorry you had a messed up day

Paul

clud17, think I can beat that. I ordered a 10stop ND from warehouse express 3 weeks before I went on holiday, intending on taking it with me. The site said delivery would be a little slower than usual as they had 'low stock'. Waiting in for 2 days, as it was a next-day delivery apparently when I got to checkout.
Got back from holiday 3 weeks ago, and the items still have not arrived now.

I cancelled an order last week because the delivery company messed it right up. I bought some furniture on the 5th May and arranged delivery for the 20th. They showed up on the 15th and phoned me to tell me they were outside my property. I was out working. But they left the message on my home phone.........anyone see a slight problem with that one. Let's see, the customer is not at their house, let's leave a message there. Then they said they could not deliver on the 20th as I had arranged way back when.

So I called the company and cancelled the order. It's the only way they will learn.

Sorry you have not had any joy with getting your lens. It's frustrating and vent away!

You def should be peeved... I ordered a lens from Jessops yesterday at 4pm!!!... paid the extra delivery charge £15 in total for sat delivery but thankfully it did turn up on my doorstep at 830am today... so I was happy... courier company rather than RM

The prob is whether its the delivery firm to blame of WE... they will blame each other... and will cloud the situation with the fact it's a holiday weekend.

Just remembered as well I posted a lens I sold on ebay yesterday SD and the postmaster was quick to tell me that it would not get there till Tuesday because of a bank holiday... so in short... looks as if no special deliveries posted yesterday will be delivered untill Tue

Ahh but did you specify which Saturday?

Good luck with it :)

If you paid by credit card I would ask ( then demand) that WE refund direct to your card the extra money for Saturday delivery. Don't be fobbed off by it' the couriers fault, the contract was between you and WE. It's their responsibility to use a courier that delivers when promised.

Having dealt with WE on a number of occasions I really don't think you'll have any trouble.

The real pain is the wasted day, and Monday is a Bank Holiday (it'll probably rain anyway)

:( I do sympathise with you, clud17. Even though there are bigger things that we should all be worrying about these days, it doesn't feel that way when you're stuck in a deck chair by the letter box all day, with the TV off in case you miss the doorbell :D.

Our (I'm in Germany) version of the Royal Mail have recently set up something called a "Packstation". It's essentially a vending machine, from which you can both send and collect parcels :). The idea is that you give the company from whom you're buying the goods the Packstation address and they simply deliver it there instead of to your home. Then, you get an email/text message/phone call (as you wish) to inform you that your parcel has arrived. The Packstation is open 24 hours, so at a time that suits you, you just bod on down there, stick your plastic identity card in the slot, put in a PIN number and hey presto! ... your parcel pops out !

It does save the irritation of missing deliveries when you're out for the day, although I have had one or two problems with the service myself :|.

Anyway, perhaps you'll have them in the UK soon, too :)!?

Link ... (like anyone really cares )!

I like that idea, hopefully it will happen in the UK soon too.

It wouldn't surprise me ;). I guess that with the event of eBay and the strains placed on couriers, who are now running around the crowded city streets in vans filled with parcels containing things like used handbags, 1970s troll dolls and other numeroous but low value goods, anything that reduces the number of house calls (and re-deliveries) that they have to make would be appreciated :).

Besides, it means that you can send stuff too, even when the Post Office would normally be closed. Very helpful for anyone with a "normal" (9-5) job ;).

i can see your point but disagree - it these very things that we should be worrying about at the moment and these are the things that need to be put right to solve the bigger problems that we have - what i mean by that is the Royal mail are in a privileged position, and have been paid to do a job - just like the politicians, bankers etc - if they did there job properly we would not all be in this mess... // rant off

Yip, I placed an order with Park Cameras yesterday and they immediately emailed to say that the hol weekend would delay delivery.

However, Warehouse Exp should not have agreed a Sat delivery if it could not be honoured.

Thanks for the comments and discussion, the lens came today but as expected i was at work. I now have to fit into the PO limited opening hours 7-12 to get my new kit.

Warehouse express say they will raise a refund request for the failed delivery charges, i wonder how much they will raise for my lost time. I think £40 per hour should do it.
£40x 10hrs £400 which should cover the cost of the lens:razz:

sorry i got a bit carried away in dreamland there.

Crikey, anyone would think Royal Mail messed up the delivery deliberately from the way everyone has gone on about it. That's a bit insulting to the people who work for them.

I send loads of stuff by RM and by courier, and about 99% are delivered on time. That's pretty reasonable, I'd say. No system is perfect. Yes, it's annoying when you're the 1 unlucky person in 100, but there's no point getting too worked up about it. Nobody's out to get you personally.

And by the way, top marks to WEx for their response. As you'd expect from them.

If i was so desperate i wouldnt have relied on the post

Next time you might buy one from your local Jessops store?

In my opinion you cant fault W/E for the service given.

Nothing was taken personally, as the thread title suggests, i was annoyed. My main greivance was the fact i had to stay in all day and wait, a lovely day it was too, and the reason was for a garanteed delivery.

As for Royal Mail, well, they were paid to provide a service which i didnt get, i think i am entilted to be disgruntled am i not  I work for the NHS which is free at point of contact. If we dont provide the right service then there are plenty of people who will stand up and offer their opinions.

I have no quarrells with WE as they held up there part of the deal and were more than reasonable with the solution.

As for being desparate and buying from a local shop dcash, i always check out the three local shops when i want a new piece of gear, the problem there is that the last three lenses i have bought they have not carried as stock and they have suggested a two to three week order time. As im an impatient b****r then i prefer 24-48hrs that WE can offer. Also the nearest Jessop with it in stock was 30 miles away.

I think it's better to stand up an say when we are not entirely happy rather than sit and accept it. If we did that how would services improve?

It is annoying, and I do sympathise with you.
But credit where credit is due, I've used RM over 230 times on ebay, and probably the same again on forums etc :D
and NEVER had a problem with them. Everything has always arrived safely and ON TIME.

If you pay the extra for the Sat delivery however, I'd expect it to arrive on Sat, no question.

But the people who work for RM are only human too you know.....

BTW, congrats on your new lens. She's a beauty!!

I work for Royal Mail so would ask one question, did the parvcel have an SG label on it meaning Saturday Guaranteed, if not then it was not guarenteed for saturday delivery although most would still get there.
Also why did you get charged an extra £15 for the service because if I remmeber right RM don't charge anywhere near that.

I cant really answer that one as the packaging is on its way to the recyclers as we speak.

as for the extra cost? warehouse express should answer that, i remember the sales girl saying it was £5 P&P and when i asked a bout the saturday delivery she quoted £20

Special Delivery - guaranteed next day delivery by noon is £ 6.70 for a 1kg package. If you want it on a Saturday you pay an extra £ 2.20 and you get a little yellow SG (Sat. Guarantee) sticker on it. This is what a normal punter would pay anyway. If you have a franking machine or a postal account the basic fee goes down to £ 6.35. It would be fair to add on a small amount to cover the costs of packing, both materials and labour.

If it went by Courier, then the Saturday delivery options for these are more expensive than the normal post.

Special Delivery - guaranteed next day delivery by noon

Next day delivery is guaranteed by 1pm not noon unless you pay extra for a pre 9am delivery
