Anyone getting the iPhone Duo

Not ordered a Duo, but do a fair bit of tech procurement - a lot of it from all brands has long lead times atm, including Mac mini’s some Apple laptops. Jan doesn’t seem too bad.

Be interesting to see if it slips or they deliver early and Apple are pessimistic to set expectations.

That said, I ordered a server back in May (nothing too fancy), delivery dates been pushed back a couple of times and now being told December. Madness.

£2k for a mobile phone! Not for me thank you :(

what is wrong with 2 coco cans and a bit of string. £2k for a phone :runaway::headbang::exit: you can get a decent camera for that with money over for a good lens

I need to get a new iPhone but the Duo is way too expensive. If I wanted that size of screen I'd replace my iPad mini with a new cellular version. An iPhone 8 and iPad mini gives me the same for less albeit in two devices. Is that such a hardship?

But it’s just the same when new camera gear comes out. Some folks would bulk at paying £8000 for a medium format camera but there are also many that are happy to buy them.

Neil, you are absolutely right. I'm a gear head, but I'll do it with cameras (to a degree) and have done it in the past with other hobbies, but although I can claim the vat back if I buy it for work use, I can't bring myself to do so. However it does look very nice and my wife wants me to get it!

I still miss my 3310!

£33.00 on FleaBay :)

I agree with your wife :plus1:

Now the issue is “ what bloody case do I order”. The 2 x Apple offering don’t look great but I’m sure that over the next 3 months there will be plenty of reviews of this or that case so no need to sweat right now.

I miss my Motorola RAZR :)

EDIT, because I didn't want to derail the thread. I won't be getting one Neil; I loved my flip phones back in the day (RAZR and KRZR), but the new foldables just don't do it for me. I think the main thing I miss is being able to flip them shut to end a call, and you can't do that with the new ones! :D

Not for me either.

I was in Kuala Lumpur last week and went in a couple of Samsung shops. I looked at their folding phones, and all of the display models had started to show wear / surface distortion along the folds...that would play havoc with my OCD!

My mate has an android foldable phone (not sure what model) and it’s also in the back of my mind about the crease as on his phone it’s in your face………
I just like new toys I guess

The benefit isn't reducing two devices down to one it's the fact you can get the benefits of an iPad Mini in your pocket with you all the time which is something an iPad Mini cannot give you.

I'm on my third folding phone now due to age, despite frequent comments about the phones not lasting I've had no issues in that regard. The crease is there if you look for it but in day to day use I don't notice it at all and find the huge amount of space I get in my pocket absolutely fantastic, it makes using a normal phone feel cramped. There's no getting away from the fact they're expensive and they're certainly not for everyone but it's the device I use most in my life which helps justify the cost.

You fancy a game of golf tomorrow..........your my kind of man :ty: (y):ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Doesnt bode well for the medium / long term robustness of these things.
I think it will be fine, Apple don't have a great history with their first generation products but I have no doubt they'll get it right.

I must admit, I am surprised with the iPhone Duo though, Apple have had 8 years sitting back watching Samsung perfect a lot of the technology so I didn't expect to see so many of these screen issues from Apple.

I had a Pixel 10 Fold briefly, and I actually really enjoyed using it, it was great when I am working away, sitting in a restaurant on my own, open the phone and you've got a large screen to watch content on, and it didn't feel any heavier or bulkier in my pocket.

The reason I got rid of it was two fold (pun intended :) ) while I was in London a very kind chap on an electric bike tried to grab it from me, luckily I sensed what was about to happen and tightened my grip and pulled back, result being he got called a 'f****n w****r' and my phone dropped to the floor, chipping it in several places, and secondly the camera, it seems any foldable device compromises in this department and they never have a camera that matches a non-foldable phone, I sold it and bought the Xaomi 17 Ultra and the camera / video quality on it is insanely good, my wife and I frequently compare the video / stills I take against her iPhone Pro and the Xaomi almost always out performs it.

I'll be watching the progress of the Duo over the next couple of years as I think my wife may like one at some point.

My dad has been using fold phones for 4 years now. I can see the benefits and the fold down the middle isn't bothersome in real use. I am not a fan of the older Samsung elongated form but i really like the form factor of this iPhone duo or the new Samsung fold 8 with the wider screen.

Having said that I'd skip the first gen model, you are already seeing all the issues. Sansung went through the same pains. It's just what you get with first gen models.
It's not like you need to wait long for next version, they release a new version every year. Though i guess in this day and age with people needing immediate gratification that must feel like a life time
(p.s. not suggestion OP is like this, just a general comment)

I have been wondering for a few years when the apple bubble will pop and users
realise how much they are getting done over but seems not for a while lol

We are all guilty of overspending on stuff 100% i just spent nearly 1k on a pair of headphones but i have to say on a phone £300 is my absolute limit

I am due to get something newer, I'm still on an iPhone 12 Pro Max. No issues with it, but next trip I take, I'll probably get something a little newer..
