edit. I just looked at your colour version on flickr, and while i generally like B/W , the colour version is perhaps even better.

To me it adds contrast and shape to it. It helps emphasise the silhouette and lead the focus to the middle.

the black and white version adds form shape and immediacy.

Great image and agree that the B&W suits it better.

All i can say is your keen, they easily take offence to having there image taken especially in this climate, the french military/police don't mess about either from what I've heard.
