back button focus

You're right Mark, I was going to add that too.The main reason I use it is to separate the metering from the focus.

BBF on my cannon 7d. Been having a play around with this having set it to * for comort so one step at a time.
Center point focus on subject, half press shutter button and hold there. press * down and hold down for moving subject. press down shutter button to take pic.

So my questions are
On the menu Cfn III no3 should this be on center point focus or Focus tracking priority. for when using BBF.
Should I see my focus point move as its tracking when my subject moves.
Or do I still have to keep my cenrtre point on my subject as I follow it.

I quite like this and know I need to practise as by using my thumb Im not quite still enough with the camera at present hence Im not getting sharp results but needed to check with those in the know what other settings should be. Im not a techi person and a bit slow on picking things like this up. So all help gratefully received.

Thanks Nigel Well have studied that and printed out in the past but it doesnt mention as such only that it is left on Default. Cant find in the manual which is default.
So it doesnt really answer my questions.
