Yes
I am looking for recommendations for a BBQ sauce that you can baste as you cook on a BBQ.
There is so much choice and not sure if all can be used in that way.

The best one I've used is Tiptree, although I haven't seen it in the supermarkets for a while
Just this one ?

Living in Essex most of our local garden centres do it and have 2 of their tearooms quite close as well

Yes, that's the one. I don't like tomatoes so I often use it in recipes that use tinned tomatoes.

I use a combination of ketchup, vinegar, sweetener and Worcestershire sauce. Picked up a bottle of barbecue ketchup the other day so will be giving that a try next time (I'm lazy!)

Baby Rays is our fave, although I usually cook with it rather than BBQ.

I've not tried many but the ones I have seem so sweet - are any of the above recommended ones less sweet than say Heinz bbq sauce?

Stubbs is the sauce we prefer; spicy for me, original for my wife. Neither is particularly sweet, but the spicy can be too much for some. Don't think you are likely to find it in your local grocery though.

Thank you - Amazon sell it, but delivery is over £14, so I might give it a miss for now, but I see that Asda (100m from me) sell Sweet Baby Ray's so I might see if they have any in store next time I go in..

Make your own, it's not hard and you can play around with it to suit your taste or the different meats.
I've been using various versions of this recipe for over 40 years just altering the spicing and the amount of each ingredient.

Ketchup
Soft Brown Sugar
Honey
Worcestershire Sauce
Apple Cider Vinegar
Pineapple fresh or tinned and juice
Basic Spices, Garlic Powder, Smoky Paprika, Cayenne, salt and pepper.

Liquidise the pineapple combine the ketchup, brown sugar, honey, Worcestershire sauce, and apple cider vinegar in a saucepan with the spices, bring to the boil stirring constantly then reduce the heat to low and allow the sauce to reduce stirring occasionally, it will darken and thicken in around 15 minutes. once cooled it will keep for about a week in a jar in the fridge.

That's just the basic recipe it can be played about with adding a little more or less and altering the spices.
