Looks like the sony people have won! their thread is much busier than this one!

:LOL:

That's because 450 users are busy taking pictures while sony users just talk about it ;) Just messin Sony owners. (y)

Had my 450 for a couple of months now. Really enojoying it. Have been lucky enough to get a few bits to add to it also.

In the far off distant future may look at a 50D, but this will keep me happy for a good while yet.

:)

huzzah! congrats negative! May many more 450d users share their pics on here!

Hoping to take a shed load at xmas and new year!

Had mine for 3 months now and really enjoying being able to take better-quality photos! Made full use of the images I took in Berlin in October and had a hardback A4 photobook made by Photobox - was very impressed with the quality of the images up to A4 size.

Just received a Nifty that I can't use for 2 more days and will look to add either a wide or zoom lens in the next few months.
Also getting 'Understanding Exposure' so hopefully I will also soon...understand exposure!

ooh, let me know what the books like. it gets raved about, but i'd like a real new togger's review! Still 2 days until i can use my 55-250mm IS.. its killing me! I've only had the camera for a few weeks, but i really wanted a zoom so i can take moon pics and wildlife!

Ras, I bought myself understanding exposure about 1 month after getting the 450d, it makes a lot of sense and is easy to understand. I'd recommend it.

I got Understanding Exposure yesterday, only read a few pages so far, and flicked through some others. Looks nice and easy to read. Will let you know more when I have read more. :)

Have now got the battery on charge, so will be already for when I open my present tomorrow :woot:.

I bought the understanding Exposure with some winnings from the lottery, so have been able to read it before I get the camera( a £10 win)

well, been taking pics of the dog today with the kit lens. just getting used to white balance and things. Can't wait to crack open the 55-250! And my gran sent me £50 for xmas, so thats a 50mm in jan then! huzzah!

Sounds like understanding exposure is pretty good then. might have to invest!

been playing with my 55-250 IS! Love having a zoom on the camera! It can be a tad slow to focus at times. I really need to learn how to use the thing without the flash. But all my pics blur!

Well happy with the camera, but have some book tokens as well and was wondering what other book to get other than Understanding Exposure.
Am thinking about the Magic Lantern guide, so is it worth getting ?

Loving that moon pic! p4ddy!

Thanks EviL Ras, it's not bad for a hand held shot out the living room window.

keeping an eye out for the moon. Sods law, as soon as i get a zoom, theres no moon!

What settings did you use p4ddy?

I got my 450d yesterday, from Jessops got the tameron 70-300 package with 8gb SDHC card and Centron bag. Got a very cheap hama tripod (last one I dropped while walking in the lakes) light and cheap. and the RC1 remote.

Need an extra battery are the £10 ones from ebay ok or am i better with a £30 canon one?

I really don't know with batteries, I mean I bought a compact with an extra spare battery which lasts a quarter of the time the main canon battery lasts, and that wasn't from fleabay.
I think, know I will need another battery for my 450D but like you don't know what I should buy as in Canon/not canon ?
I suppose for the price difference you have to take a chance !

1/160 5.6 iso400 then sharpened it up & lightened it a tad with the cannon PP software.

Another newbie here with a 450d. Picked it up today from Jessops. Nifty on the way tomorrow from amazon as Jessops were out of stock, as were they with my free bag.

Off to the carribean on the 1st so plenty of opportunities await.

70-300mm f4-5.6 IS next on the shopping list.

Another 450D user (newbie) here... only got the 18-55mm IS lens at the moment. The camera is ace - its my first DSLR and so far I have not worked out how to use any of the settings other that auto so I have some learning to do.

Have a think about going on the Experience Seminars based near Huntingdon but they also do them around the country. There is one called Understanding your 450D and also a series called Understanding your Digital EOS.

I've been on Understanding your Digital EOS parts 1 and 2 and can highly recommend them.

And no, I dont get commission for recommending them lol

You can learn aperture priority mode copycat style - stick it in auto, press shutter halfway down and make a mental note of the shutter speed / aperture. Now switch modes and use those settings, if its wrong have a fiddle and try again.
I do this between aperture priority & full manual mode when I think the camera wont do what I want (probably because Im using the wrong metering mode) - by trial and error I find a way to get what I want.

I found it easier to get to grips with aperture priority by fixing the ISO (I use 200 most of the time), if its on auto it tends to chop and change a bit, which makes it hard (at first) to get a grip on the relationship between shutter & exposure.

Buy a 50mm f1.8 - £50 or so, gives you alot more freedom, especially if you are doing static stuff - flowers/indoor shots etc. As long as shutter speed is over 1/4 sec you should be fine.

What I need to work on is composition at the same time as the tech stuff, its easy to forget the artistic side while you are trying to do the tech stuff.

Far as batteries go, some say the cheap 7 day shop ones are fine, have no experience myself. I read on POTN that in the US a company called sterlingtek are well regarded, but I haven't found a UK reseller.

I just bought myself:

* eos 450D with 18-55mm IS kit
* 50mm f1.8 II
* 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS
* Sandisk 8gb SDHC card
* Lowepro microtrekker 200

I know that all this things have arrived. But my college is in holiday so I couldn't get it until the 5th of Jan.. D:

Now I just need to get myself a tripod..

Just to say I've read the first few sections of the book and can already highly recommend it.

It puts together all the things you previously knew about photography (what Aperture does/means, shutter speed etc) and explains how they work together to create different photographic effects.

Well worth the tenner just to get a better understanding of what you're trying to achieve!

i had a 450D for 6months and i love it, i have the 18-55mm is kit lens and a 55-250mm is lens.

just out of curiosity (as this doesnt seem to be on the canon site and seems pretty important) what size sensor does the 450d use? is it the 22.2 x 14.8 mm aps-c size?

well, took the 450d out for its first weekend. i found i was changing between the 18-55 and 55-250 a lot as i wanted loads of different shots. but overall happy with a few of the shots i took!
