Nope, it had sold last thing at night. Got an e-mail from them at 830am next morning and it had gone! But thanks again for the PM :clap:

So the hunt continues - I've got a Tamron 28-75 on order from Jessops, which is the best price I could find.

Not used any myself so can't really comment on how good they work. Always seemed a bit of a black art this MF thingy, although I will put up with MF when I eventually get around to buying the Sony (or KM) 135 STF.

Not sure about MD adapters, think you can get them but not sure.

M42 adapters are also popular, some of which have been chipped to allow focus confirmation.

I would read over on Dyxum before buying as I think there were some discussions in relation to adapters and the a900.

I've used one on my D700, you can get them for loads of mounts. Really good concept... interchangeable mounts. I think "MD" fit is older, so I'd need an MD fit adaptor on the body, then an Adaptall 2 on the MD adaptor.. I was hoping to find an Adaptall 2 for the latest mounts..

I love manual focus actually, not a problem, especially for macro :)

Shame about that lens. The one I picked up from LCE had been in the shop for two weeks before I finally caved in. Worth keeping an eye out there, as I've seen a number of secondhand G and CZ lenses come up over the last few months.

Yes MD is the MF Minolta mount as you said...

This is what I was talking about:

To mount Tamron adaptall-2 MF LENSES on Minolta Maxxum / Sony Alpha Mount
The AF doesn't function but it allows to keep the infinity focus !
The diaphragm functions manually.
The photographic exposure meter functions with most to Minolta Maxxum / Sony Alpha mount adapter (α900,α700,α350,α300.α200,α100,α5D,α7D.etc..).
The ADAPTER is brand new, manufactured with hardened Magnesium alloy and is anodized with black, ensure silky smooth operation of your lens and camera.

Which looks like it will fit straight onto A-Mount.

I don't really mind MF, well that is with a HSM/SSM lens that you can focus without using the AF clutch (which I guess is the same as using a MF lens). Mind you, maybe I wouldn't mind MF if the a900 has a split-image focusing screen :)

You can get an Adaptall 2 in MD fit but you can also get an Adaptall 2 MAF fit mount - much rarer though & consequently dearer. Whereas an Adaptall 2 MD mount would typically go for £10-15 an MAF one will go for £40+.
If that really is a genuine Tamron Adaptall 2 mount it's a bargain. Pretty sure that it will be a copy but if it works ...

"June 2009: Sigma Imaging (UK) Ltd is pleased to announce that the new SIGMA 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM is now available in Sony and Pentax mounts.

This lens incorporates a Hybrid Optical Stabilisation system which allows photographers to us the lens’ OS function even if the camera has a built in anti-shake system. If the photographer chooses to use the lens’ OS function, they must ensure that the camera’s built in stabiliser is switched off."

Sigma said earlier in the year that they were going to make OS lenses available in Sony & Pentax flavours & they have followed through -hopefully more to come.
So now Sony & Pentax join Olympus/Samsung in having the choice of either/or in-body or in-lens - going to be hard for CaNikon to argue that they have the superior system when we have both. :lol:

That is good news, best of both worlds and hopefully Sony will follow up with having OS/IS/OSS [Optical Steady Shot] on their dSLR lens lineup.

I did notice that Sony seem a bit confused about where IS should be implemented, since the Sony DSC-HX1 bridge camera(http://www.sony.co.uk/product/dsc-h-series/dsc-hx1#pageType=Overview) has a G lens with OSS.
 
Interesting - I find the SS in the A900 totally useless. I'm still not convinced it works having owned it for nearly a month!

I think the claim about the number of stops with the Sony system are based on normal users, not super humans like yourself who seem to be able to handhold what most of us can only dream of ;) [joke]
Not sure, maybe this is a limitation of the body IS where you gain a lot less (or maybe nothing), if you are able to handhold more than the "1/focal length" shutter speeds.

It does work for me, but I struggle getting "1/focal length" sharp without SS. With the a900, I find I still have to take into account the crop factor of APS-C like when I had the a700, which I've assumed this was due to the resolution. TBH, I've not really thought about it that much.

BTW, I assume you are now planning on running the two systems side by side? [a900 + d700] I must admit, if this was an option then I think you really get the best of both worlds. And if Sony bring out a lower resolution FF with similar performance to the d700 you can switch to all Sony, and if Nikon bring out a reasonable priced d700x then switching back to Nikon is also an option.

The rumour is that Sony will bring out the a800 before the end of the year, and there is speculation that it will be 16MP FF (how much truth there is in this is anyones guess). There are obviously rumours about the d700x, which I'm sure are well known.
But running two systems, I can see how this can start to get very expensive (and always feel you don't have the right lens in the right mount, when you need it)
 
I was shooting in some dark woods yesterday at 1/3rd second, handheld - I shot 3 with SSS Off and 3 with SSS On, and 2 were sharp from each set, and one blurry.

I do have pretty good handholding technique - years of training shooting my Nikkor 300mm f/4 with 1.4x TC (420mm!) handheld, or braced..!
 
I know this is a long shot :help:, but if I'm going to succeed anywhere on the web, it's here!

I've been asked to take some prom night pictures for my wife to be's cousin, next friday (26th) which I've agreed to do. Trouble is, I only have a 55-200mm f3.5 lens!

So I (very cheekily!) wondered if someone could loan me something for the night? Ideally, something with a wider aperture (f2.8:thumbs:, f1.7:p, f1.4:lol:) and something 28mm or wider.

I'll cover all postage costs and bung a fiver to the lenders chosen charity, and obviously promise to take care of the equipment like it was my own (which is very well!).

I know it's a long shot, and I fully understand if no one wants to take the risk, but I thought it can't hurt to ask!

Thanks for the offer! Can I put you on standby for this? I'll hopefully have bought something in the next couple of days but it would be nice to have a back-up. When is the latest you'd need to know by to get the lens to me by thursday/friday? :thinking:

Thanks for the offer :thumbs: but I think I'll need a wider aperture than 3.5. I'm actually looking to buy one of these lenses as soon as I find a good one at the right price!
 
Hi all :wave:,
I'm new here and after a little bit of advice - apologies if its been asked before, which I'm guessing it will have been.
I'm looking to get a CPL, thought I'd get a 62mm one as thats the largest diameter of my lenses and get a couple of step up rings to use it on the smaller diameter lenses.

What I'm confused about is which one to go for. I've seen some people saying to avoid the Hoya G series and go for the pro-1 or the super HMC, others say the G series is fine, while others say to get Kenko as they're the same as Hoya, or get B+W, etc, etc. :thinking:

I'm just a budding amateur with delusions of adequacy, so any advice that can be offered to help clear the waters would be greatly appreciated!

A200/A330/A350 are on the way out.
replacements doesn't appear to have a grip option so I would say it's shifting stock rather than have it left on the shelf.

I would guess Tuesday night if you are paying for Special Delivery?
Posted Wednesday should get to you Thursday.
 
Scott, I won't need to borrow the lens now as I've been told the pictures will all be taken in good light, so i'll be ok with what I've got already!

Gutted.

I have been looking at getting the grip for my camera for a while now.

I havent really had much chance to take pictures for the past month or so but i`m hoping that now the weather is getting nice i`ll get more ops
