Crikey! Got my D300 at the right time! Some serious price increases there! :(

I wonder how much my Nikon 17-55mm AF-S f/2.8G IF-ED Dx will be worth now? (once I get the soft focus confirmed/fixed!) :naughty:

I hope I can just dodge the price hike for the 50mm f/1.4 AF-S... I'm praying the shops I called will get back to me soon :|

Where have you got these from? a D3 is £2499 from Wilkinson cameras.
D3x is £5255
D700 £1530.99 from park cameras.

They're RRP's

They will inform street prices in the coming weeks and months, if not sooner.

http://www.camerapricebuster.co.uk/ is not an authority on price.

The new RRP's will affect street prices soon, and they already are some retailers. Posting this link does not deny this fact. Click through on the Calumet link for a D700 earlier took you to a price £200 higher than listed there - it now shows the correct price.

Those selling at the lower prices simply bought stock at the lower RRP's and have it left - they will need to protect their margins with the higher RRP's starting to bite.

There's an article here, not photography specific, about plunging profits (a loss in fact) for Sony. Canon also gets a mention, as does the strong Yen....

http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/382/1050382/sony-set-to-post-first-loss-in-14-years

A couple of months old but here are a couple of Reuters articles from last October on profit slumps for Canon and Nikon due in part to the Yen....

Canon
Nikon

More directly on topic, My eyes nearly popped out of my head when I saw the new prices on some Canon glass at Jacobs. I have four lenses on order with Jacobs and I'm locked in at the old prices (already paid) but still awaiting stock. Here's how the old and new prices compare...

Canon EF 16-35 : Old price : £924.82; New price : £1129.99; Increase : 22%

Canon EF 24-70 : Old Price : £779.99; New Price : £979.99; Increase : 26%

Canon EF 50/1.4 : Old Price : £222.12; New Price : £279.99; Increase : 26%

Canon EF 85/1.8 : Old Price : £247.61; New Price : £299.99; Increase : 22%

It was only around six months ago that I was dithering over whether or not to buy the 50/1.4 and 85/1.8 for around £210 each, brand new on eBay from UK suppliers. Boy, I wish I had.

My maths is a bit ropey, but the Nikon rises are nowhere near as high as the Canon ones which all seem to be around the 20-30% mark (the pro bodies were increased by more than 30%)

Warehouse Express seem to be one of the first companies to increase prices in line with the RRP increases, I'm sure the rest will follow.
