Canon warns again about product shortages and supply issues:

Apology and information regarding product supply status

I joking mocked I might get my R7 for Xmas day, perhaps I should reevaluate that comment to Xmas Day 2023 ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

It would be a nice gesture if Canon offered a small gift for the long wait, spare lens caps, hot shoe covers, discount on extra battery etc !

The previous 1200mm was circa £60k and had been for over 20 years.

It’s a highly specialised lens, never designed for the likes of you and I
Granted the £22k 1200mm f8 is a bargain considering the previous lens, but the £19k 800mm f5.6 has nearly increased by £6k compared to EF version. It even looks like a RF 400mm f2.8 lens with a 2x TC bolted on. I’d hope that’s not the case.

Speaking of things taking some time to arrive - I ordered an accessory shoe (hotshoe) cover for my R3 from Dale Photographic three months ago - it's still showing as backordered.

Not just Canon that have supply problems, Olympus OM1 and Sony A74 were in short supply, maybe not as bad as Canon though.
Local factory which closed about 4 years ago was purchased by another company in summer 2021 as they wanted to expand but they have been unable to get hold of new kit for the site- was due to start production Easter 2022.

What does the factory produce ! ?

How do you find the R3? It looks a beast and the specs and reviews are great. Eye control must be helpful.

Maybe I got lucky but the Canon online shop had an R7 kit in stock at the beginning of the week, and it’s now at home with me :)

I think this may upset a few members who have ordered from elsewhere.
Sorry - no intention of upsetting anyone. I just meant that it might be worth checking the Canon website to see if any more come in stock.

I brought a MacBook Pro, so can't really afford (or want) a new camera now. I got through the summer with just my M50, and hardly took any photos anyway.
Ill keep the order open with WEX, but will cancel the order when they do get in touch, just of the satisfaction of turning them down lol.

It's a superb camera, incredible autofocus and lovely files even at high ISO and very good battery life - eye control is interesting and I've played with it for personal stuff successfully but it's an early iteration of this version of that tech and isn't anywhere near reliable enough for what I do (mainly shooting professional sports) at the moment.

The kits are still selling as soon as they get through the door so there isn't much point I imagine.

I have ordered the body only and been waiting since I placed my order mid June ! ! !

Thing is all the shoots and events I would have like to use it for have all been and gone, so I might as well have for Xmas day as it will not been used till at least March 2023 ! !

I was on a Hide Fox shoot this Monday I really would have like the my R7 for animal eye detect, so yet again I used my Sony A6600 and Canon 7Dii !

There are people who ordered from smaller retailers on day one that haven't got theirs yet.

I ordered from Park cameras on 31st May and got this reply to my email a couple of days ago (asking for an update)

Sadly our R7 consignment that was due mid August was delayed further, possibly by up to a month, so could be within the next week or two. We will only be able to confirm on receipt of stock, such is the current nature of the distribution network.
We are aware this is a nationwide issue and are still awaiting confirmation of dates.

I’ll stick to the 600 f4 mii with 1.4 and 2x TCs! For me the IQ difference will never be worth switching!

600 f4 Mkii + 1.4 & 2x TC's is a very nice new car for my wife, as that is what she would want if purchased this gear ! ! ! ! ! ! lol..

Sometimes you find good deals second hand. They were quite a bit less when I got them about 6 or 7 years ago now.

I've had no problem ordering an R5, R3 and 15-35 f2.8, 24-70 f2.8, 70-200 f.2.8 & 100-500 from Panamoz. Plenty of stock and not getting overcharged in rip off britain.

But they are charging more than UK suppliers, the difference being they have them in stock. Makes me wonder how they get their stock.
My R5 was £3010. Everywhere in the UK (ie Wilkinsons, WEX etc it's £4299) How do you reach the conclusion they are charging more than UK suppliers? All my kit was purchased from Panamoz and I've saved thousands of £s. No way will I buy bodies or lenses from UK shops ever again.

They’re talking specially about the R7 rather than other models. The R7 is currently £1520 at Panamoz. UK shops like WEX have the R7 at £1349. The difference is panamoz have stock so can practically charge what they like as UK shops don’t have stock.

Grey Imports may be cheaper now but if UK stores fail then I can’t see prices staying low forever, as the R7 situation shows.

I get that some of the contributors to the topic were discussing the R7 but the title of the thread was regarding stock shortages of Canon kit. I'm never getting ripped off by UK stores again with their inflated prices and poor service. Dealing with Panamoz has been a real eye opener - I've been buying photographic equipment for over 50 years and paying through the nose for it most of the time. No more.

I understand all this frustration with waiting ages for the deliveries of the R7 and perhaps we will all need to be more patient? Will there be more regular supply chain and parts shortages in the coming years who knows but we’ve got so used to things arriving so so quickly these days.
I waited five months for my R3 to arrive and although I had the money in my bank account I had problems in paying WEX not because of them but the bank not allowing a single transaction going through, something to do with visa and my bank couldn’t help. Obviously it was an anti fraud thing and luckily WEX were great but after waiting five months I almost had a heart attack!

I was referring to the comments about the R7. I shound have been clearer.

Why such a price difference as that is a lot of margin to give away !

This price difference between Rip Off Britain and the rest of the world is nothing new and though Canon may state is is currency conversion and taxes. I can not see how a camera here can cost £2000 and in the USA $2000. Once you apply US tax and VAT here the price as still very similar !

Nikon was in a similar position perhaps they did not expect to sell more than a set number of unit and the additional wipe out their stock, or perhaps they just never had stock in the first place.
Which makes me wonder why go to Canon when there is very limit supply regardless of high demand, as there is a shortage in components any way ! !

Nikon got a bashing for low stock and canon are getting the same !

Moving on some RF glass in the classified section incase anybody is looking for native glass!!

Some of us have asked before, but are there issues with all Sigma lenses and EOS R cameras or just the 150-600? I gather that Canon will not allow any 3rd party manufacturers to sell any lenses with RF mounts. Disappointing.

I gather US prices are stated without tax and UK prices include VAT which makes it hard to compare directly. There’s also exchange rates to consider too. The £ hasn’t been doing so well which is why our costs are going up. 10 years ago we were getting $1.6 to £1 (a year ago $1.4 to £1) now it’s $1.15 to £1, but it’s the Yen that’s important as they are Japanese manufacturers. Take a US price at $2000 without tax applied = 288,728 yen. UK price of £2000 before VAT is circa £1670 = 277,469 yen. Even at £2000 that’s 332,247 yen so 45,000 yen more than US price in yen. At current exchange rates 45,000 yen is £270. $2000 is £1738 so that works out quite nicely.

Some articles mentioning that until canon has developed the RF mount with firmware to resolve bugs. They do not want lenses not performing on their mount, even thrid party ones as customer may believe it is the camera ( which it is ) so this is the reason for the halt in sharing tech data on their RF mount !
plausible I supposed,...
