Scuse me.... I need the loo!

I want one :D

But I think the wife might not let me :(

Ahh well, have to settle for the lens instead

Took me a while to notice the lens in that pic Ian

:notworthy:

Can anyone tell me why Canon lenses are white? It seems a bizarre colour to have on long telephotos when a lot of them are used for wildlife shots.

Now theres some real lenses - as opposed to the milk bottle and jam jars in that other thread :D

Reason they are white is supposed to be to lessen the effects of heat on the lens elements through expansion and contraction when in strong sunlight and rising temperatures that this would bring - thats the official line anyhow.

:canon: in case you hadnt guessed ;)

You missed one ;)

Its a Canon 1200mm F5.6L :) (60k if you can find one)

What you cant see are the team of Sherpas, the forklift and the state of the bank balance of anybody that owns one ;)

I did not have time to put it with my other ones as it's set up in the back yard.

60K Sterling maybe a little over priced as they were only $89K as new. The Tripod is part of the lens by the way.

Lifted from Wikipedia:

The Canon EF 1200mm f/5.6L lens is a professional EF lens made by Canon that was introduced in 1993, six years after the launch of EOS cameras, and discontinued in 2005. The initial price for this lens was US$89,579. It weighs more than 36 pounds (16 kg), comes with its own heavy-duty tripod and case, and was built only by request. The focal length can be increased to 1700 mm f/8 or 2400 mm f/11 using the Canon EF Extenders 1.4× and 2× respectively. There are believed to be around a dozen of the EF 1200 mm lenses in existence. Sports Illustrated magazine owns two of them, as does Canon Professional Services and James Jannard, the billionaire founder of Oakley.

I'm sure I've read somewhere that the BBC owns two of these puppies too

f5.6 ? Far too slow for me - I'm waiting for the f2.8 version ! :D

Ray

Your point :D

The reason Nikkor lenses are black is so you can fill the boot of your car with them & the local pond life don't notice them & screw your car for them!
I think this photo shows how well they "blend in" ...
