Well yesterday was my mothers 60th Party and from the photo's taken I would like to create a book to present her with as a memento as looking through my cards (ableit with the hangover from hell) it looks as if I have a good number of shots that would go well in a collection, but, I have no clue as to how to go about it?

What I would like and I don't know if there's anything available to do this is to find a company where you can download a template(s) where you can put your page layouts and crops/cuts together and then upload for them to print the finished result.

So, the question to you guys out there, is there such a thing that I have not found or what would you advise as the best way to go about it???

Have you looked at Blurb? you can download a book design tool from them and upload the book for printing.

Superb, thank you will have a look.

The other thought I had ws can I just use a DTP package and ftp up to a company what I want printed? Just thinking that will allow me to have control over the layouts, spacing and texts and give me a little more flexibilty?

Albelli are doing an offer at the moment for a free £15.95 photobook. I got one and they're really nice. Cheap and cheerful, it may not be what you're looking for, but just thought I'd mention it...

Try SmileyHippo. I've used them for photobooks on several occasions and the quality is great. You can download an application from them and put together your book using this. They offer many different styles of book with many different page templates or you can make your own custom page layouts.

Hope this helps,
Iain.

I used Blurb to do a wedding photobook just the other day. Not the cheapest, but I know they get great reviews. Unfortunately it is yet to be delivered, so I can't vouch for the quality personally.

I've used Aldi's print service to put together a photobook before too, and it was pretty good for the money (ie. a lot cheaper than Blurb).

Jessops have a photobook service with a downloadable app with layouts etc. No better than the rest mentioned I shouldn't think but if you have a local jessops you can collect from store which may be useful. Photobox are fantastic for individual prints so I would imagine there photobooks are of comparable quality. They also do lots of great introductory deals.

I can vouch for Blurb and have used them for the last 2 years, after having tried Cewe photobook, which I felt was of a poor standard. Even after having them reprint my book, I was not impressed. They tried to blame my monitor calibration, but after that, I tried the same book with blurb and it came out perfect.

Just to throw another into the mix - I have used photoBox for several books, wedding / grand kids etc and found them very good quality.

Can't wait to try some of the suggestions although its taking me longer to edit the photo's than I thought lol

Have a look at Loxleys too. I have used Photobox and Albelli in the past and neither come close to Loxleys.

I haven't used them for books but as dscolourlabs are exceptional value for prints, their books are probably worth a look especially as it can all be done over the interwebs now instead of sending it through the post.
