Does your last few days mean you owe me a pint?
Fair enough ... next time I visit Barnsley

Hire one Simon, you'll be amazed!
I'm committed to FF at present and I have a Sigma 24-105mm f4 lens hopefully turning up today. I'm in the process of trying to get my pension early due too my ill health, if the trustees agree, I think there will be enough in the pot for a D500.
Also, I had some possibly not so good news last week, for the last follow up to my shoulder and elbow operations and a MRI scan. Looking at the scans, it seems as if I may need some spinal surgery (neck) according to the Shoulder Specialist but he's referred me to a Spinal Specialist to discuss with me, and see what the plan of action is going to be. So it think it's best to hold off for the present and try and hold the GAS at bay

I'm no birder and it's not exactly a difficult shot. But I'm very happy. This with Siggy 150-600 C
The look out. by Trevor, on Flickr
Some nice detail there Trevor - it looks a little under exposed on my work monitor.
I've had a quote from Nikon of £173 to replace my LCD screen. A lot less than I was expecting. I hope they can keep to this price, and they don't find anything else wrong, and they can do it quickly.
The LCD costs £99.42 apparently. I was expecting 3x that judging by the chat I had with Fixation.
When I was buying the D300 many years ago I phoned Nikon and asked them if they would repair it if it were an import, even if I paid them, and they said no. I asked because there was a really good deal on an import. I ended up buying in the UK. That was why I phoned and checked again this time rather than just filling in the online form. I expected them to say no this time too, but it costs nothing to ask.Doesn't sound too bad then, and it dispels the myth that Nikon UK won't touch imports
Just picked my D500 up, now need to look into the most appropriate xqd card to purchase to balance speed/capacity and cost. Any recommendations?
Excellent, thanks Gramps. The xqd format is completely new to me.

Looking forward to testing it out tonight and hope the buzzards and swallows are feeling photogenic!
Hi Wez. Battery charging as i speak. Did i see something about other enel15 batteries (eg from our D810s) not being compatible with the D500? Digital Depot in Stevenage had one in stock. I tried WEX first but was told two weeks.
I got one of these to try: https://www.scan.co.uk/products/32g...s-exceptional-durability-to-water-temperature
Significantly cheaper than most available higher spec ones and I really, really can't imagine me ever needing anything faster!
Also further to the above, what's better to use for action/BIF? Group or Dynamic focus?
Probably a bit of a noob question, what do the XQD cards replace, CF or SD? I have a SD reader built into my newish computer (i7), so would I need an adapter/reader to use these cards, I have USB3. Or, are the photos able to download straight from the camera quickish?.

i think the rule of thumb for fast stuff isBIF i use Group, and yes to BBF on the Joystick, I'm actually thought a half press man, but i do have it set on the back for single too...
I don't seem to do very well with the 3D mode at all.
CF seems to be less favoured ... for those cameras that can use the advances then XQD and SD UHSII enable much faster shooting speeds and buffer.
XQD cards need a reader, I picked up a Lexar reader that plugs directly into the USB port for around £25: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B012PKX...m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=RB5NC58GRXY8SEM8RTKA
As far as I know XQD is yet another card format, you would need an additional reader to read these cards out of camera, however the D500 has USB3 connectivity so you can can connect the camera directly to the comp and transfer images/files to your favourite photo editor. I used the camera USB3 until I got a XQD reader for about £25 on amazon.
