D500

I've recently bought the D500, doesn't have the resolution of the d810/d850 but it works fine as an action camera, actually it could be used for any subject I reckon.
This Great white Egret was captured on a very dark morning at the end of a recent snow storm, d500 nikon300mmf4 pf & tc1.4 for just a touch more reach.
I've since discovered the lens was front focussing by a touch when used with the teleconverter, made an in camera adjustment of +2, everything is fine now. focus was off by a fraction in this shot but it doesn't look too bad considering.
cheers.

Smashing picture @flavio

I bought my D500 with wildlife in mind. At present it’s my only D-SLR.
Torn between adding FF body or just using the D500, I know that for my uses it’ll certainly be enough camera.
Just need to get out and shoot..

I'm no birder or long lens specialist.
But I'm having a great deal of fun and getting some satisfaction with my Siggy 150-600. Here used with the 1.4 TC

Always quiet in here lol. Need more of us encourage more images

I guess folks (like me) are posting images in the photo threads and not necessarily here which maybe more for discussing the camera itself.
I'm happy with mine now that the battery issue has been resolved and I continue to be impressed with the AF and dismayed with Snapbridge and I gather Nikon hasn't learnt anything and Snapbridge is the same in the D850!

i didn't use a tripod as i didn't have one, so i just lay the camera down and shot away. 2s timer delay, then 10 shot average multi exposure mode. **note** it doesn't work with live view so if you turn that on, it turns MEM off and you have to start again. As i only had a CPL, i could only get 1/6s at f22 ( not ideal ! ), then it does all the stuff in camera and you end up with the above. You can chose 1-10 shots ( more would be nice )

PS - the last one is an in camera preset - B&W portrait that i downloaded from somewhere. No processing other than a slight shadow lift and straighten

Will give this a go next time out never tried it better look for it

its pretty handy if you don't have a suitable filter - it was suggested to me by a guy in the US from the mu-43 forum after he saw a shot i'd taken in London last weekend.I didn't even know it existed !

Anyone using 17-55 2.8 on the D500?

Still considering changing from D750 to D500 as really just doing Equestrian work now so I think it makes more sense!

Already have a 70-200 2.8 which will keep hold of.

I spent a few years doing Equestriian Event Shooting. I used to have D4/D3/D700 with 28-70 and 70-200 2.8’s. I now have the D500.
The D500 will be certainly good enough, but I’d probably stick with D750 in your shoes.
If you’re doing it for profit I’d add a 2nd body.

Using the 17-55mm f2.8 on the D500 and it's fine. Mainly used wide open in dark, cramped interiors.

Thanks Tony - it was freezing on Sunday. Will have a look at some more when i get home

Occasional profit, but nothing too much! Although the dog agility could get some money, I just hope the D750 is quick enough to keep up with very small fast dogs!!!

Ah, Dogs..I’ve done some of that with D700. Would have killed for D500 for Shooting those..
Not an easy gig, really good technique will help. Especially head on shots..
And a lens with fast AF

Its something that it swaying me towards the D500, but sadly I do not know how many times I would be doing it and cant afford 2 bodies!

Just work on technique. Save your money until you know you NEED the D500 (unless you can afford to change)
If buying today I’d probably go with D500 for the AF.

Will see how I get on with practice shots and go from there! I only have 2 lenses and the 70-200 will be kept what ever body I go for!

The outlay of swapping used for used will not be much, but got to make sure its right thing to do before I do it!

I have tried the d750 and the nikon 70-200 2.8 vr1 on something similar.
From what I have read and seen the d500 with its better af system would be better I think.
The d750 is ok on these but not enough keepers for my liking and too many important shots missed

I have the VRII and most Equestrian shots are keepers (apart from some that have been taken too far away) but the dogs might be a whole new story!!

I've done it with German shepherds outdoors a few times and they are pretty quick. If I was doing more of it id consider the d500

That’s my trouble. Equestrian is not an issue at all for D750. Dogs I have no idea! Plus I would have to ditch my 1.4 lens lol

If you were more local where we could of meet up I would of happily let you borrow my D500 to see how you get on but leaving your D750 with me as a deposit know what I mean

Well, I've just spent a lot of today reading up on all sorts of things, and may just be looking into getting a D500.
I've got a D750 which I'm perfectly happy with, but there seems to be a few things the d500 brings that I could use to hide my lack of skill.
97 pages is a lot to work ones way through so apologies in advance if I ask some that have been asked before, but I guess the starter has to be aimed at anyone here who has got or had a D750 and now has a D500 - can you please list and pros and cons?
Low light and speed of focus have always been priorities, but I've also just started trying a few BIF shots, and a crop body with faster focusing seems to indicate the D500..

@stevewestern

I used to have D750. Brilliant camera.
I wanted to try to get some wildlife shots and bought a 2nd hand Canon 7D with 400 f5.6. Quite liked it, then bought a Sigma 150-600 for the D750. Super

Realised I could do with more reach for Birds.
Hallelujah the D500 was announced.
Early adopter. What a camera.
Had to sell the D750 to get one mind. No regrets.

Sadly had a financial situation and sold all my Nikon gear and lenses..

Good news, managed to get over that, back with D500 and Siggy 150-600 & tc.

I might get a FF Nikon at some future date for walkabout... won’t let the D500 go..

Trevor. Part of me says I should thank you. Not so sure my better half would agree....
How do you find the TC on the Sigma affects focus speed (I have the lens, not the TC)

Oh, and thanks !

I agree with everything Trev says.

I was a D750 owner well twice LOL and I am now a D500 and I have been with it ever since so that does show something

Happy enough with image quality. Can only use it in good light.
