Yes
I have been messing today with my Kodak Pixpro, as it tends to slightly over expose in bright light I've took to using exposure compensation in Aperture priority mode if I think it is too bright ranging from -0.3 and -0.7Ev which seems to help but I wondered how would one stop compare to this EV is this -0.3 Ev just roughly a third of a stop or have I got this totally wrong !

If anyone wondered where the strange f numbers come from it's back to the good old inverse square law.
The aperture doubles in size with each full stop (step) and the f number is the square root of that doubling.

f number

1 √ = 1

2 √ = 1.4

4 √ = 2

8 √ = 2.8

16 √ = 4

32 √ = 5.6

64 √ = 8

128 √ = 11

256 √ = 16

512 √ = 22

1024 √ = 32

And so on.
