What website is best to upload images to. I want to use it to store my images should my laptop go splat and to let my friends view my images.

I'm also interested to see what other people think about them. My only real fear is my images being used elsewhere, and I don't want that to happen.

Now I know this is an emotive subject asnd people have their own favourites but what one is best?

Also, has one of these websites actually lead to work?

Flickr definitely.
As for your images being used elsewhere...no matter what website you use there's always a possibility of that happening unfortunately!

I use Picasa but what is the advantage of flickr since so many folk prefer it?

one of the reasons flickr is popular is that if you are on certain BT Internet servicess you can get a free pro account with unlimited uploads/bandwidth/storage.

It depends upon the type of images you upload to FLICKR as to whether you get work from it or not. I can image landscape/commercial stuff may get work, if your image is found among the 4 billion other ones on there, but if your a wedding photographer it wont.

For non comercial I like flickr.... theres quite a few plugins about which makes site intergration ( which was my main thing ) easy.

Also flickr charge unlimited per year where as Picasa ( or rather google ) charge for over 7gb of space per year.... but thats accross all their services including mail. So you could have 6bg of mail and 1gb of images and pay nothing or 5gb of images, 1gb of docs and 1gb of mail etc etc

I like Flickr....if you are worried about your images getting taken then put them all on friends only or private. Any you want to show publicly then make a small copy so that the filesize is too small to be worth pinching.
